Tiburon, CA - Travel and Things To Do

Tiburon is an incorporated town in Marin County, California. It occupies most of the Tiburon Peninsula, which reaches south into the San Francisco Bay. The city's name derives from the Spanish word "Tiburon", which means "shark". The city's name was probably inspired by the prevalence of locally native leopard sharks in the surrounding waters.

You can travel in Tiburon by boat, car and bus. Tiburon is served by two ferry companies: "Blue and Gold Fleet" which offers service between Tiburon and San Francisco. Most ferries go to Pier 41 in "Fisherman's Wharf", but few will go to the Ferry Building in the "Financial District". The other ferry company that serves Tiburon is "Angel Island - Tiburon Ferry" which offers service to and from Angel Island State Park.

To travel to Tiburon By car you should take Highway 101 from San Francisco across the Golden Gate Bridge. The "Tiburon" exit is about 10 minutes from the bridge. Turn right on to Tiburon Boulevard and follow it all the way to the end of the peninsula. It all takes about 15 minutes.

To travel toTiburon by bus you should take the number 19 bus which runs from Marin City, further south in Marin, to downtown Tiburon. The bus doesn't travel very often. It travels hourly until about 7:30 in the evening.

Tiburon is a great city for a vacation. There's so much to do and to see. Downtown Tiburon is great for walking and biking. Parking is available at the Bank of America lot at the stop light before main street, at the Ark Row Parking lot, at the end of the Main Street, and along Tiburon Boulevard.

The Tiburon Bike Path runs from downtown Tiburon, along Richardson Bay to Blackie's Pasture, near Highway 101. The path is wide and paved with a running path to one side. There are several and sights along the way.

There are many cute boutiques on Main Street and Ark Row. These includes Citrus, a shoe and purse store, as well as a dog store.

Also you can see a lot in Tiburon: monuments such as Old St. Hilary's Church, China Cabin, Railroad & Ferry Depot Museum, Main Street, Ark Row, Waterfront Park and Landmarks & Garden Center.

There are few good places where you can eat, such as Sam's Anchor Cafe, Guaymas, Servino's, Paradise Cafe & Ice Cream, Rooney's, Carrerra's and Manana.

One good place to drink in Tiburon is Guaymas. Their margaritas are made with sour mix rather than lime juice, but the view is fantastic!

You may prefer to stay in San Francisco because it's very close to Tiburon and you have better chances of finding a place for your taste. Even so, there are two good places to sleep in Tiburon: Tiburon Lodge which is a large 4 story complex with pool, conference rooms and restaurant and The Waters Edge which is a 23-room boutique hotel on a historic pier in downtown Tiburon. All rooms float dramatically over the harbor and many have stunning views of San Francisco and Angel Island. Complimentary continental breakfast and wine hour are also offered.
