On most days you'll see Jan Thompson working the produce section or helping out behind the counter at her incredible, produce & fancy foods store and deli restaurant. A vegetable boutique of brightly colored, healthy farm fresh foods welcomes visitors who find it nearly impossible to leave empty handed.


Freshly made salads, sandwiches, casseroles, quiche, soups and desserts are so appealing, you find yourself caving to the craving for a snack, even when you're not hungry or you just ate. From the freshly baked Truckee Sourdough Bread to lemon tarts or a custom cake shaped like the Mad Hatter's hat in the fairy tale Alice in Wonderland, the incredible variety of confections and pastries bring spice into your life.


On the wall of this family-owned business (and seen in a photo above) is a mural of the farm where this 150 year tradition began. Newcastle Produce has been in the family for generations as Jan (upper left photo) will proudly tell you on your visit.  Beginning with her great, great grandfather, the family of farmers have promoted healthy living in a tradition that Thompson, her husband and even her children carry on today. Greeting guests from around the world who find their way to the little community of Newcastle, Thompson and her friendly staff offer warm hospital to make you feel important, even though you are one of thousands passing through the busy market on a daily basis.  It's no secret that Newcastle Produce is a great place to dine. Tourists from around the globe seem to find the market and they line up at lunch time to enjoy delicious faire.


Like so many other businesses in the heart of California gold country, the Thompsons are passionate about farming and committed to producing fruits and vegetables through sustainable farming practices that keep soils and crops healthy.
