Mountain View, CA - Travel and Things To Do

Mountain View California, a peaceful coastal town in central California's Santa Clara county is named for its spectacular view of the Santa Cruz mountains. Roughly 30 miles south of Oakland at the center of Silicon Valley, it's a place you don't want to miss. Sunny days and spectacular nights with everything from great food to outdoor concerts, it's a place you'll want to visit again and again.

While you're there you'll want to visit Google Headquarters, one of the most innovative companies in the US, and already an icon of American culture. Recently they transformed their parking lot into a giant solar power supply lot, and while the panels produce enough power to light 1000 homes, it also provides some shade for your car while you check out the rest of the incredible imagination land known as Google.

Every Sunday there's a Farmers Market where you can buy locally grown fresh produce. Mountain View is also home to Costco, and Best Buy, near the Rengstorff exit, so there's plenty of shopping opportunities to fill an afternoon.

Shoreline Blvd is where you'll find some fantastic attractions and you'll want to spend a few days to see it all. There is the world's largest Computer History Museum, where admission is always free, and a little further down you'll find the 700 acre Shoreline Park, with bay trails, a spectacular golf course, a saltwater lake and a wildlife refuge. The Shoreline Aquatic Center is a bastion of aquatic fun, where you can rent boats, and go windsurfing, even try your hand at Kite Surfing or just watch the kids instead. Shoreline Blvd is also where you'll find the Shoreline Amphitheater, where there's always a buzz about local events and concerts.

If you're hungry, and you will be, you must go to Castro street, where you'll find a variety of cafes, bistros and full service dining. Here you'll find the Rose International Market and you're going to love it. Whatever you're in the mood for, you'll find it on Castro St but you should still check out the eateries on El Camino, like Garden Fresh, where they serve up vegetarian Chinese food.

While you're on Castro St, trade in those books you brought with you for a new batch at Bookbuyers, open every day. You can spend hours inside this cool little book store, and you never know just what you might find on those shelves.

Hotel Zico and the Best Western Mountain View Inn are on El Camino for your lodging needs or if you prefer try Hotel Avante, they're all right there. Sasimo Bed & Breakfast for a more relaxing experience, is on Ortega Ave and it's near the San Antonio Shopping center so you need not sacrifice convenience to get a good night's sleep. You should call and book a reservation to check availability and be sure to get the best accomodations that will make the trip most comfortable for everyone along for the ride.

There's so much to do in Mountain View it would be impossible to list it all here, so plan ahead to have some extra time to explore the ocean side and the city lights, you won't want to miss a thing.
