Huntington Beach was named after Henry E. Huntington.  He built Pacific Electric Railway "Red Car" system from Los Angeles to Orange County and received the town name by agreeing to lay rails through this city back in the early 1900s.  He is buried in San Marino on the grounds of the Huntington Library and Gardens.

The nephew of wealthy magnate Colis Huntington, Henry inherited his uncle's estate and also took his uncle's wife, Arabela's hand in marriage.  The two shared a love of books and art and began building extensively upon a collection that visitors today can view at the Huntington Library and Gardens.

In Huntington Beach Henry Huntington agreed to create a rail stop for his train system that went from Los Angeles to Newport Beach.
