The 14th Annual Holiday Lights Festival in Griffith Park, once primarily a drive-thru event seen by car, has switched gears. In 2009 the event will feature walk-through only nights from December 4-17. Park in the LA Zoo lot and walk about one mile during this event.  In addition to the walk-only nights, also new this year, the event is lit by energy-saving LED light bulbs. The LED lights utilize only 1/3 the energy of traditional light bulbs. In addition, the Holiday Light Festival is being powered by a clean, energy fuel cell. The lights are turned on Thursday, December 3, during Bike Night in which bicycle riders are invited to cruise through, while traditional driving of cars occurs through from Dec. 18-30.Pedestrians may still walk on a path during this time. Location: 4730 Crystal Springs Drive, Los Angeles, CA. dwplightfestival.com

Parking will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Walkers are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and to dress warmly to walk the full one-mile route each way.

To celebrate vehicle free nights, there will be an educational mini fair area December 5, 6 & 7 for all to enjoy, featuring information on family activities, healthy nutrition, as well as some tasty treats.

The driving route, walking and shuttles all run December dates. Shuttle buses will be available weekends. Walkers on these days will enjoy the walking path.
