Culver City, CA - Made in Culver City, a free film program presented by the Culver City Redevelopment Agency, will feature the beloved MGM musical classic The Wizard of Oz on September 12, 2009 at 7:30pm in Culver City’s City Hall Courtyard. Culver City City Hall is located at 9770 Culver Boulevard and parking and dining are available in Downtown Culver City. No reservations are required for this family event.

The Wizard of Oz, starring Judy Garland, received the Best Music, Original Song Academy Award for the timeless “Over The Rainbow”. The story follows Dorothy Gale and her dog Toto as they travel from their home in Kansas to the magical land of Oz. The Wizard of Oz was filmed entirely in Culver City at MGM Studios and this year marks the 70th Anniversary of its release in 1939. Special permission for the screening has been provided by Warner Home Video in anticipation and celebration of the September 29th release of their spectacular newly restored Blu-ray version of this classic treasure.

Made in Culver City celebrates the golden classics that were produced in “The Heart of Screenland”. The City of Culver City has a unique film legacy and has been the home to Thomas H. Ince Studios, Hal Roach Studios, DeMille Studios, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Selznick International Studios, RKO Pictures, Pathe, Desilu and, currently, The Culver Studios and Sony Pictures Studios. This year Made in Culver City is presented in association with Warner Bros. and sponsored by Sony Pictures Entertainment with participation by the Culver City Historical Society.
