  ARNOLD - Cedar Center Arts & Crafts Festival. 37th Annual Cedar Center Arts & Crafts Festival on Labor Day Weekend, September 5 & 6, features fine handmade arts & crafts and gourmet foods at one of the area's most popular events. Live country/swing music by "Homegrown" from Modesto and juggling by "Bonzai" Bunnell from San Francisco perform each day; continuous entertainment. The Ebbett’s Pass Lion’s Club serves a pancake breakfast from 7:30 - 11:00 each day. The Ebbett’s Pass Volunteer Department offers local beers & wine for sale. CAPITOLA - Begonia Festival. 57th Annual Nautical Parade includes begonia covered barges floating down Soquel Creek to the Lagoon. Great views from the Stockton Bridge, Cliff Avenue and Wharf Road. Other events during the day include Horseshoes on the Sand 8 AM - Finish Capitola Beach in front of the Venetian Hotel. Float Construction Viewing all day, Chalk Art on the Seawall 9 AM - Noon at the seawall on the Esplanade. Begonias to go, Head to Toe! 11 AM - Noon In Esplanade Park. Become a part of the Festival! Create and design a festive hat for the occasion! Bring your own hat, begonias are free. Concert in the Park 4 - 6 PM at the beach in Esplanade Park.

CHICO - Taste of Chico. Taste of Chico 2009 is a highly acclaimed food, music and fine-art festival. It boasts over 80 restaurants, breweries, wineries and beverage distributors. Event participants will feast on fabulous fare while they stroll Downtown streets. Four main stages host continuous live music and performances while the "Open Air Art Gallery" previews fine artists from the Chico Art Center's Open Studios Tour. LAKEPORT - Lake County Fair.  Lake County Fair is one of Lake County's most popular summertime events enjoyed by more than 37,000 people each year. Live entertainment, exhibits, carnival rides, food, livestock, and fun for the whole family. Runs through Sept. 6. Location: Lake County Fairgrounds, 401 Martin St., Lakeport, CA. LONG BEACH - Greek Festival by the Sea. Time: Noon - 9 p.m. Cost: $2 donation. Location: 5761 E. Colorado, Long Beach, CA.

LOS ANGELES - LA County Fair. Time: Opens at 10 a.m. weekends, Noon on Wed.-Fri. Event runs through Oct. 4. Cost: $17 general, $12 age 6-12; Free under 6. Parking: $10 car.  Location: Fairplex, 1101 W. McKinley Ave., Pomona, CA. Call: (909) 623-3111.

LOS ANGELES - Los Angeles African Marketplace & Faire. This annual event now in its 24th year features food vendors, clothing and crafts, and lots of stage entertainment. It's a great way to celebrate the summer outdoors in L.A.  Subject to change: Time: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Location: Rancho Cienega Recreation Center, 5001 Rodeo Road, Los Angeles, CA 90016. PISMO BEACH - Art in the Park @ Dinosaur Caves. Over 70 local artists and craftsmen exhibit and sell paintings, sculpture, pottery, glass artist, textile, jewelry, wood and metal furniture, and much more. Live music, hands-on children's activities, fresh flowers and plants, BBQ, and on-site massage offer a day of fun for all ages. Time: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost: Free admission. Location: Dinosaur Caves Park, Pismo Beach, CA.

REDONDO BEACH - Seaside Lagoon Water Park. The large saltwater lagoon with chlorinated water  offers trained lifeguard supervision. Besides swimming, the Lagoon offers a large sand area for sunbathing, children's play equipment, and volleyball courts. There is also a grassy area and luau shelter for day and evening events, plus snack bar facilities provided by Ruby's Restaurant onsite. Time: 10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. daily. RIPON - Color The Skies Rise Shine Give Run Balloon Festival 2009. " Benefiting Children's Hospital Central California ", this large two-day festival includes a Hot Air Balloon Launch at 7 a.m., Tethered Balloon Rides ($5); Pancake Breakfast ($8/ $5 seniors); Chug A Bug Train Ride ($2); and Arts, Crafts and Entertainment; and a  1mile, 5k, and Kids fun runs (registration on Time: 6:30 a.m. to Noon. SAN FRANCISCO - Angel Island After the Fire Hike. Docent led tour takes you by the areas where a fire destroyed plants and trees, and will show how it is recovering.  Learn about the historic sites and impact on vegetation and the BayWood Artists. The hike is about 6 miles. Take the earliest ferry from San Francisco or Tiburon and meet at 10:30 at the Island gift shop. Return on the last ferry. Bring hiking shoes, layered clothing, water, lunch, camera, and binoculars. Group size limited. Call (415) 435-3522 for reservations. $5 fee goes to the state park.

SUNOL - Historic Train Rides. Depart from Sunol depot and travel part of the historic route of the first transcontinental railroad. Departure times: 10:30 a.m.; Noon; 1:30 and 3 p.m. Cost: $10. Location: Sunol Station, 6 Kilkare Rd., Sunol, CA Call: (925) 862-9063.
