ARROYO GRANDE - Strawberry Festival. Annual Memorial weekend Strawberry Festival includes the entertaining Strawberry Stampede walk/run, Strawberry Pancake Breakfast, Strawberry Shortcake & T-shirt booths, Strawberry Prince & Princess Contest, Strawberry Blonde Contest, Strawberry Cooking Contest, Kiddie Carnival, Arts & Crafts Show, and Entertainment. BISHOP - Mule Days! - Bishop's largest annual event held every Memorial Day weekend as back country mule and horse packers celebrate the opening of the summer packing season. World's largest non-motorized parade, events; rodeo-style packing competitions, concerts, crafts fair, and more.

CHESTER - Memorial Day Craft Fair. The annual two day arts & crafts fair features artwork, vendor booths, and foods. Time: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost: Free to attend. LOS ANGELES - La Sylphide Ballet. Los Angeles Ballet performs this classic set in a fantastical Scottish surrounding. Other performances by this ballet company include the annual Nutcracker Ballet. LOWER LAKE - Lower Lake Memorial Day Parade and Barbecue. 2009 Annual horse parade, pet parade, awards and prizes, live music and dancing, artists and crafters. Barbecue from noon to 3 pm. SAN BERNARDINO - National Orange Show. Now in its 94th year, this is the top event of the year in San Bernardino. Activities include Petting Zoo and Farmyard Follies; Home Arts Pavilion with hand crafted exhibits, quilts, collectibles; Model Train Exhibit featuring the Inland Empire Module Railroad Group; Kid's Town USA with Showboat Marionettes; Shoppers Expo A commercial marketplace with exhibits, products, services, and the newest gadgets and gizmos; and Helm & Sons Carnival featuring the Pirate Ship ride & Giant Carousel.

SONOMA - Sonoma JAZZ FESTIVAL  - Joe Cocker, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Lyle Lovett, Ziggy Marley and Chris Isaak are featured. Time: Celebrate world class music, food and wine steeped in the relaxing ambiance of California wine country. Set against the backdrop and charm of historic Sonoma’s central plaza, this years musical offerings include Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Lyle Lovett, Ziggy Marley, and Chris Isaak. SUNOL - Toast of Spring on the Wildflower Train. Livermore Valley vintners host wine tasting to during a one hour excursion filled with views of California poppies, lupin and mustard wildflowers seen from a vintage train ride through Niles Canyon. Board at the old Sunol depot and travel part of the historic route of the first transcontinental railroad. The one-hour round-trip excursion is about 14 miles. WATSONVILLE - Watsonville Fly-In and Airshow. This annual event features vintage planes in aerial displays, warbirds, military and more. Food vendors, bands, classic car show and lots of entertainment throughout the weekend make this one of the top picks for Memorial Weekend. Location: Watsonville Airport, Watsonville, CA.
