ALHAMBRA - Tree Lighting Ceremony & Santa. Santa arrives in downtown Alhambra on a shiny, bright red fire engine, there will be free refreshments, a tree lighting ceremony and musical entertainment. ARROWHEAD - Nutcracker Ballet. The delightful ballet, a time honored tradition, is presented by the Lake Arrowhead Classical Ballet Company at the Rim of the World Performing Arts Center, Lake Arrowhead, CA. Time: 8 p.m. Cost: $16.25 each.

BENICIA - Benicia Tree Lighting. Benicia's most beautiful event of the holiday season includes live entertainment, tree lighting and Christmas open house on Main Street. Set in the magical atmosphere of the Benicia Waterfront, the tree is located in front of Benicia Peninsula. Benicia Youth Commission will serve hot beverages and holiday cookies. BISHOP -Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and Street of LIghts-  Bishop Chamber's Annual Bishop City Park Festivities feature hot cocoa, coffee, cookies, candy, great holiday music and Santa! Children can tell Santa their Christmas wishes at the Chamber's Visitors Bureau at the park from 4:30 to 6 pm. Park Christmas tree lights up at 6 pm sharp! BRENTWOOD - Brentwood Holiday On Ice. Twinkling outdoor light-filled rink under a big tent. Located next to the Streets of Brentwood shops, public ice skating goes to Jan. 10. BUENA PARK- Knotts Christmas Crafts Village. Holiday decor, gifts, strolling carolers and visits from Santa are included in this unique once-a-year shopping extravaganza.  Hours: Open daily except Christmas. CAMARILLO - Camarillo Ranch Holiday Candlelight Gala. 9th Annual event with more than 400 people expected to attend the Gala at the Camarillo Ranch, which is open to the public. This year’s event will feature a variety of special food from local restaurants and caterers, live and silent auctions, special exhibits, and tours of the elegantly decorated Camarillo House. COSTA MESA - Sugar Plum Festival's Arts & Crafts Show. Gifts to warm the heart and accessories that make a home will be sold at this event. Time: 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Cost: Free admission, parking $5. CRESCENT CITY - Holiday Fair. Del Norte County Fairgrounds Main Exhibit Building is the location for this gift-buying opportunity. Music, entertainment and lots to look at. DEL MAR - Holiday of Lights Drive Thru. Head to the Del Mar Fairgrounds for a spectacular lights show visible by car. This event is one of the most popular holiday displays of the season. Runs nightly through Jan. 3, 2010. Time: Daily at 5:30 p.m. Ends at 10 p.m. Sun-Thurs; 11 p.m. Friday & Saturday. Cost: $14 car of 6 people or less; $19 more than 6; $49 bus; $10 new holiday hayride optional ride goes every half hour from 5:30 -8:30 p.m. on Fridays. ESCONDIDO - Christmas by Lamplight. Christmas by Lamplight lets guests turn back the clock in time 100 years, led by costumed actors who will offer a glimpse of living history about Escondido. During this living history program guests are entertained while also learning a bit about Victorian Christmas and life in Escondido long ago. FALLBROOK - Christmas in Historic Downtown Fallbrook. A Joyful Traditions event with Customer Appreciation Night includes Carriage Rides from 4 to 7p.m. and Carolers 4 to 7 p.m.

GARDEN GROVE - The Glory of Christmas Musical. A blend of Christmas carols, pageantry, live animals, flying angels, and special effects unfold in the nativity story. GROVER BEACH - Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony. This event is an annual favorite with area residents as City officials preside over the lighting of the City Hall tree. HUNTINGTON BEACH - Farmer's Market and Art Fair at the Beach. Time: Noon to 5 p.m. Location: Pacific Coast Highway at Main Street, Huntington Beach, CA. Cost: Free

LONG BEACH - Crystal Ice Skating Outdoor Rink. New in 2009 for the holidays, daily skating at The Pike is held in the grass area. LOS ALTOS - Tree Lighting Ceremony. Event will be held in Downtown Los Altos, CA.

MAMMOTH LAKES - Town of Mammoth Lakes Holiday Tree Lighting. Located in the Footloose Parking lot from 6:00 - 7:30 pm. Music, Santa Claus, refreshments and hot drinks. Cost: Free. Location: Mammoth Lakes, California 93546.

LOS ANGELES - Downtown on Ice at Pershing Square. Biggest rink and cheapest price, according to the city of Los Angeles Parks & Rec department, which invites you to come skate amidst the skyscrapers. Time: Monday -Thursday 12 Noon to 10 p.m.; Friday thru Sunday 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

LOS GATOS - Christmas Tree Lighting & First Day of Carriage Rides. Tree Lighting festivities include late afternoon carriage rides, arrival of Santa Claus and musical entertainment. Time: 4 - 9:30 p.m. (approx.) Tree Lighting begins at 6 p.m.; Santa arrives on a red fire engine at 6:01 p.m. and stays at the park until 7pm. Carriage Rides starts at 7pm. NEWPORT BEACH - Lighting of the Bay. The "Lighting of the Bay" ceremony is one of the community's most cherished holiday traditions during the festive beach holiday. Santa Claus kicks off the holiday season by flipping a giant switch to illuminate more than 50 electric Christmas trees in the waters of the bay.  Location: Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort & Marina. OAKLAND - Jack London Square Holiday Tree Lighting.  Jack London Square Lights Up for the Holidays with a preview of the Oakland Children's Holiday Parade floats and costumed characters. At six o'clock watch as City Officials light up the skies with Oakland's only waterfront holiday light installation and stay to listen to festive holiday music performed by the Oakland Symphony Chorus. OAKLAND - Oakland ZooLights. Oakland ZooLights is an annual event in which the public comes after dark and can walk along a path to see lighted displays with animal and zoo themes. Oxnard Tree Lighting Celebration Holiday Festivity event features community performers, the premiere of the 2009 Winter Fantasy Music & Light Show and the lighting of Ventura County's tallest Christmas tree. OXNARD - Winter Fantasy Music & Light Show. A spectacular computer choreographed music and light show that plays on the quarter hour each hour from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. through New Years Eve at the Historic Pagoda in Plaza Park, downtown Oxnard. PISMO BEACH - Holiday Harmony & Tree Lighting. Kids can play in fresh snow, enjoy Santa's Village, jump in a bounce house and decorate cookies while dults listen to live music. The holiday tree lighting happens at 6 p.m. in front of the Pismo Beach Pier. Caroling, hot apple cider will be served and Santa will hand out candy canes to the children starting at 5:30 p.m. Time: 6 to 8 p.m. Cost: Free. SALINAS - Streets of Bethlehem Living Nativity. Streets of Bethlehem is an annual event that has been held for about a decade. Offered free to the public, thousands come to see this nativity scene. SAN FRANCISCO - Nutcracker Ballet - featuring San Francisco Ballet, this time honored classic is sure to please. SANTA ANA The Science of Gingerbread. Kids' imaginations can run free as they explore gingerbread, and learn that there's science in every bite! The annual gingerbread exhibit is one of the seasonal delights, along with this year's Mexico: Festival of Toys exhibit showing popular toys in Mexican culture. The 24th Annual Folk & Tribal Arts Marketplace at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History offers one-stop holiday shopping for whimsical, practical, and exotic treasures from more than 50 countries around the world. Stretch you dollars beyond shopping as you watch international dance and musical performances, and enjoy a tantalizing ethnic lunch from the Tribal Arts Cafe. SANTA ROSA - The Facts Behind the Funnies. Exhibit at Charles Schulz Musuem The Facts Behind the Funnies: Schulz's Passion for Precision. As a cartoonist read by millions of fans, Charles Schulz felt an obligation to get his facts straight about the subjects he tackled in Peanuts. This exhibition reveals Schulz's dedication to detail in order to ensure that sports plays and positions (from ice skating to surfing), medical conditions, musical notes, and even Woodstock’s shorthand were accurately depicted. SOLVANG - Solvang Julefest Tree Lighting Ceremony.  Village of Music is the theme for this annual event with live entertainment coordinated by Alan Satchwell including Santa Ynez Valley Union High School Choir, Santa Ynez Valley Presbyterian Church Choir and Fossemalle Dancers. Special visit by Santa and Mrs. Claus. Gingersnaps (brunekage) provided by Olsen’s Danish Village Bakery. Time: 4 p.m. Cost: Free. TEMPLETON - Nutcracker Ballet. 12th annual event of the North County Dance and Performing Arts Foundation presentation. Nathan Cottam, a former Principal dancer with Ballet Theatre of Boston who studied with the famed American Ballet Theater, and Jesus Solorio, a local celebrity who competed on the third season of television’s So You Think You Can Dance, will perform.
