CALIFORNIA BEACHES - Grunion Run.  Southern California beaches grunion run spans the beaches from San Diego to Santa Barbara in Southern California. Time: 10:05 PM - 12:05 AM (Aug. 7). Cost: Must have California fishing license to fish the shoreline for grunion.

BEAR VALLEY -Bear Valley Music Festival. Silent Movie with Ragtime Pianist Keith Taylor featured at 41st Annual Bear Valley Music Festival in an inspiring  outdoor setting in Alpine County. Cost: $25-50. Call: (209) 753-2574.

COSTA MESA - Orange County Fair.. Orange County Fair is one of the most popular urban fairs in the U.S. Pig races, people contests, carnival rides, food, fun, and loads of live entertainment and fun for the entire family. HERMOSA BEACH - AVP Crocs Tour Hermosa Beach Open presented by Bud Light. The world’s best players love coming back to Hermosa Beach (August 6-9) for a number of reasons: The sand is deep, the play is some of the best in the world, the venue is unlike any other, and the fans are incredible. All these reasons guarantee one of the deepest, best fields on Tour, which translates into some of the best beach volleyball the world will see this summer. Not only that, it’s the last time the AVP will be in SoCal this season. Don’t miss it. Olympic Gold Medalists Phil Dalhausser (the 6-foot-9 “Thin Beast”) and his partner Todd Rogers will be there, as will the No. 2 team of Jake Gibb and local hero Sean Rosenthal, perhaps the most electrifying player on the sand. For the women, there will be the dominant duo of Nicole Branagh and Elaine Youngs and USC All-Americans Jen Kessy and April Ross. The men’s and women’s finals will air live on NBC. LAGUNA BEACH - Art-A-Fair festival. Annual art event located in a beautiful garden setting with 125 artists, plus live entertainment, fine food, demonstrations and workshops. This year's theme is "Venetian Carnival."  The event runs through Aug. 31. Location: 777 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach, Calif. PLEASANTON - Imagination Expressed 2009. The Pleasanton Art League show runs through September 13 at the Museum On Main Street, 603 Main Street, Pleasanton. Artwork will be available for sale. SAN FRANCISCO -  SF Chefs. Food. Wine. The SF Chefs. Food. Wine. is a four day food and wine event August 6-9, celebrating the unique flavor, diversity and bounty of Northern California. The main tasting tent will be in Union Square, where chefs, wine makers and distillers will offer an exploration of taste featuring local products.
