  AMADOR COUNTY - Amador County Fair. Auction Day in this annual fair themed, A Grape Time to Hukilau. Destruction Derby at 7 p.m. Cost: $8/adult (age 13 up); $4 parking. Time: 9 a.m. to midnight. Location: Locus at Empire Street, Plymouth, CA.

BEAR VALLEY -Bear Valley Music Festival. Bear Valley Orchestra Classical Concert featured at 41st Annual Bear Valley Music Festival in an inspiring  outdoor setting in Alpine County. Cost: $25-50. Call: (209) 753-2574.

COSTA MESA - Orange County Fair. Orange County Fair is one of the most popular urban fairs in the U.S. Pig races, people contests, carnival rides, food, fun, and loads of live entertainment and fun for the entire family. FELTON - Thomas the Train. Take a 25-minute ride with a full-size Thomas the Train, meet Sir Topham Hatt, live entertainment, storytelling and more. Roaring Camp Railroads, Felton.  $14-$18 GET TICKETS

LAGUNA BEACH - Art-A-Fair festival. Annual art event located in a beautiful garden setting with 125 artists, plus live entertainment, fine food, demonstrations and workshops. This year's theme is "Venetian Carnival."  The event runs through Aug. 31. Location: 777 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach, Calif. LAGUNA BEACH - Sawdust Festival.  The show offers a great opportunity for home decorating and gift shopping. Summer Art Festival runs daily through Aug. 30, 2009. LONG BEACH - Julius Caesar, play. Long Beach Shakespeare Company's FREE Summer Shakespeare Festival is back for its 11th Season! Intrigue, conspiracy, murder... and a ghost! It's a power struggle--Roman style. On stage in the classic political thriller! William Shakespeare's JULIUS CAESAR. It's festival seating: bring blankets or low-backed chairs to sit on. Bring a picnic or get a meal there! Food and beverages will be available on site! A glorious spectacle! Saturdays at 6pm, Sundays at 2pm at the Expo Building, 4321 Atlantic in Bixby Knolls, Long Beach, CA.

MANHATTAN BEACH - International Surf Festival. PISMO BEACH - Art in the Park @ Dinosaur Caves. Over 70 local artists and craftsmen exhibit and sell paintings, sculpture, pottery, glass artist, textile, jewelry, wood and metal furniture, and much more. Live music, hands-on children's activities, fresh flowers and plants, BBQ, and on-site massage offer a day of fun for all ages. Time: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost: Free admission. Location: Dinosaur Caves Park, Pismo Beach, CA.

SAN FRANCISCO - Angel Island After the Fire Hike. Docent led tour takes you by the areas where a fire destroyed plants and trees, and will show how it is recovering.  Learn about the historic sites and impact on vegetation and the BayWood Artists. The hike is about 6 miles. Take the earliest ferry from San Francisco or Tiburon and meet at 10:30 at the Island gift shop. Return on the last ferry. Bring hiking shoes, layered clothing, water, lunch, camera, and binoculars. Group size limited. Call (415) 435-3522 for reservations. $5 fee goes to the state park.

SUNOL - Historic Train Rides. Depart from Sunol depot and travel part of the historic route of the first transcontinental railroad. Departure times: 10:30 a.m.; Noon; 1:30 and 3 p.m. Cost: $10. Location: Sunol Station, 6 Kilkare Rd., Sunol, CA Call: (925) 862-9063.

THOUSAND OAKS - CATS, Musical. Tells the story of the annual ritual of Jellicle cats. This musical had a 19 year run on Broadway.  Time: 2 p.m. Cost: $42 - 78. Location: Fred Kavli Theatre -Thousand Oaks Civic Arts, 2100 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd, Thousand Oaks, CA. Call: (805) 449-2787.
