NATIONAL PARKS FREE WEEKEND - Gain free admission this Saturday, Aug. 15, and Sunday, Aug. 16, to California's National Parks--Cabrillo National Monument; Death Valley National Park; John Muir National Historic Site; Joshua Tree National Park; Lassen Volcanic National Park; Lava Beds National Monument; Muir Woods National Monument; Pinnacles National Monument; San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park; Sequoia National Park; Whiskeytown Unit National Recreation Area; and Yosemite National Park. Save from a couple dollars to $25 for park admission on this special weekend that will allow visitors throughout the U.S. to enjoy free admission National Parks in 49 states.

BENICIA - The Spenger Garden Music Series presents Banshee in the Kitchen. Celtic with a fresh perspective
“Mixing up hammered dulcimer, fiddle, flute, accordion and guitars, these three women create a whirlwind of sound that is easily more than the sum of its parts. DUNSMUIR - Coco Montoya, concert. Coco Montoya, renown blues/rock artist, is a powerful guitarist who learned his chops from the legendary Albert Collins, and was John Mayall's lead guitarist for 10 years. LAGUNA BEACH - Art-A-Fair festival. Annual art event located in a beautiful garden setting with 125 artists, plus live entertainment, fine food, demonstrations and workshops. This year's theme is "Venetian Carnival."  The event runs through Aug. 31. Location: 777 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach, Calif. LAGUNA BEACH - Sawdust Festival.  The show offers a great opportunity for home decorating and gift shopping. Summer Art Festival runs daily through Aug. 30, 2009. LAKE ELSINORE - Steve Oliver, jazz concert. Music With A View Concert Series invites you to this free event. Bring blankets for an evening of relaxing entertainment. The City of Lake Elsinore and the Elsinore Valley Arts Network are proud to present the Concerts in the Park Series 2009. Food, Soft Drinks, Wine and Beer will be sold at each event.Have a Picnic. McCLOUD - McCloud Heritage Days. This annual event celebrating the city's proud past includes Wild West Reenactors; an Arts, Crafts, Antiques, and Collectibles Street Faire; Edelweiss Singers and Dancers; an excursion train ride, an antique tractor show; a quilt show; wood carving demonstrations; art show; Bocce ball; and a variety of contests, games, displays, food and entertainment. Also, all day Saturday will be the Alumni golf tournament.  On Saturday evening, there will be a nostalgic street dance and Rusta. Admission to most events is free.

PINE MOUNTAIN CLUB - Center of the World Festival. Center of the World Festival takes its inspiration from the Chumash legends, and the spiritual significance of Mt. Pinos to the Chumash people. The Festival is being held in Pine Mountain Club, California, which is a small hamlet nestled in the Los Padres National Forest at the base of Mt. Pinos. The Festival is a playwright competition, with plays reflecting a theme of peaceful conflict resolution. The theme itself is based upon the Chumash concept of maintaining balance with the universe and mankind; ancient ceremonies were conducted at Mt. Pinos for that purpose. The Festival is a fundraiser for Kern County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Cost: $10 donation to Red Cross per daily event. Location: Pine Mountain Club, CA. Call: (661) 242-1583.

REDONDO BEACH - Summer Concerts on the Pier. This free summer concert series at the Redondo Beach Pier features, rock bands, surf sounds, Irish bands, indie, and jazz. Time: 6 to 8 p.m. Cost: Free. Location: 100 W. Torrance Blvd., Redondo Beach, CA.

SAN DIEGO - Wicked, musical. The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz, Wicked is Broadway's biggest blockbuster with a Grammy and three Tony awards, but does equally well in San Diego. SAN RAFAEL- Food and Wine Festival. Third Annual San Rafael Food and Wine Festival includes  food from area restaurants and wine, chef demonstrations, artwork, live music and more. SANTA BARBARA - Woodie Car Club Show. The public is welcome to attend this car show with classic woodies. There will be prizes, raffle, silent auction, food and more. SEBASTOPOL - Gravenstein Apple Fair. More of a Taste of celebration than anything, the list of winery, breweries and restaurant participants is amazing for such a small city! If you're into good food and beverage sampling, this is for you...definitely. Every August Ragle Ranch Park in Sebastopol, California provides the beautiful location for an annual celebration of Sonoma County agriculture. The Gravenstein Apple Fair, sponsored by Sonoma County Farm Trails, showcases the best in arts, crafts, food, wines and brews, games, entertainment and farm life activities.  Time: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Cost: $10; Seniors $8; Age 6-12 $5; Under 6 Free. VENICE BEACH  - Summer Fest in Venice Beach. Over 100 vendors, 15,000 in attendance and an amazing two days of shopping, arts, crafts, entertainment and music. Opening the show is Melanie, singing the National Anthem and Disney songs. Time: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Cost: Free admission.
