Chatsworth Beach Close Vacations For Orange County and Los Angeles Beaches

Southern California beaches

Chatsworth California is less than 30 miles from the Pacific Ocean. Because of the roads and highways, it isn't quite a straight shot to the beach but you will find the nearest beaches in Santa Monica and Malibu to the southwest. The drive can range from 45 minutes to an hour and a half, depending on traffic. While Chatsworth isn't that far from the beaches of L.A., and is a an unincorporated community of Los Angeles, the temperature difference between the beach and Chatsworth in the summer can be 25 degrees. Summertime temps of 100 degrees are not unusual for this residential community of horse ranches, suburbs and even some movie production studios.

When the chips are down...Chatsworth's residents, many who freelance or own movie related businesses, experience especially tough times. Chatsworth has seen and experienced several such  rises and falls...from the presence of a company called Rocketdyne to the movie industry's popular presence, Chatsworth has handled all sorts of changes.

The dry, desert appearance of the landscape has been used in many Western flicks beginning in the early 1900's. Zorro,  Hopalong Cassidy, Gene Autry, Roy Rogers and countless cowboys movies were filmed in Chatsworth. Even today, the arid look and open space offers an ideal setting for movie sets. Add to that the claim of "Horse Capital of the World", and what more can you say?

Chatsworth's availability of land and access to Hollywood studios created a custom-made  haven for celebrities and wealthy moguls seeking huge estates with lots of privacy and amazing collections of horses.

Sheltered by the Santa Susana Mountains in the The northwest part of the San Fernando Valley, Chatsworth is surrounded by Porter Ranch to the northeast, Northridge to the east, West Hills, Canoga Park, and Winnetka to the south, and the Simi Hills, Ventura County and Simi Valley to the west.

Porter Ranch Estates, Chatsworth and the surrounding communities switched gears and went high-tech with companies such as Rocketdyne introducing controversial testing methods and practices after WWII. Such space and defense organizations left a legacy of pollution which has mitigated during the past decade. On the bright side, the region's focus on science can be seen in its higher learning institutions such as California State University, Northridge, 30,000 students strong.

One of the biggest events of the year is the Chatsworth Pioneer Days held usually in October. Tours of the Minnie Hill Palmer Historical Cottage are provided and guests can browse through the Chatsworth Museum featuring information and artifacts from Chatsworth pioneer families and other exhibits.

With the lack of an actual government, Chatsworth is a study in economies. Groups have formed to promote specific interests in commerce, history and culture. These committees and nonprofit organizations today are vital to helping shape the growth of the area, and offering a voice to citizens who want to maintain some control over their own quality of life.
