Festivals --Oktoberfest is in Full Swing



BENICIA - The Jokers of ACE 2 Comedy for a Cause. Two-time Comedy Competition Winner, Don Friesen, headlines an event for adult literacy. Time:  8 pm. Location:  Hayley Horn Auditorium at

BIG BEAR LAKE - Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest. 38th Annual Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest Schedule of Events includes Log Sawing & Stein Holding Contests - held several times throughout the day. Safe Slam Beer Drinking contest every Saturday evening, the night in which . only persons 21 years and older will be admitted after 6:00 p.m. Families with children who have entered Oktoberfest prior to 6:00 p.m. will not be asked to leave.  Outside Budenstrasse Game Booths, Exhibitors, Petting Zoo Saturdays from 12:00 Noon to 8:00 p.m.  Price: $5 - 10 approx. CATALINA ISLAND - Catalina Island Women’s Forum Wine Festival. This 13th annual event features an  island paradise filled with an afternoon of pleasure, where just steps away from Avalon’s waterfront in the Pavilion Lodge courtyard, you can sample delicious varietals from numerous prestigious wineries, indulge in sumptuous hors d’oeuvres, and bid on unique and exciting items at a silent auction, all while listening to live musical entertainment. Ticket includes a commemorative festival wine glass, food and entertainment. Must be 21 years or older to attend. Sponsored by Catalina Island Women’s Forum, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing charitable services to women and children on Catalina Island , including a Women’s Wellness Program, Student Mentoring and Scholarship Programs, and other community projects. HUNTINGTON BEACH - Old World Village Oktoberfest. Adults only night with a Bavarian band, live entertainment, German foods served and beers on tap, plus the pretty "shot" girls and a large dance floor. HUNTINGTON BEACH - Gondola Cruise. Scenic, serene, romantic and fun, the ride through the Huntington Harbour waterways is great any day or night. MODESTO - Modesto Reel Food Film Festival. See Hollywood and independent films about food, cooking, and eating, at California’s only annual food film festival, and sample delicious foods at the tasting reception. The event is hosted by the Modesto Film Society, the Modesto Art Museum, and the historic art deco State Theatre. Location: State Theatre, 1307 J Street, Modesto, California. ORANGE - Pumpkin Patch. A huge pumpkin patch and train ride are part of the fun in this 3rd annual event that includes train rides, hay rides, a haunted house, pony rides, thousands of pumpkins and more. Admission into the pumpkin patch is FREE. Prices for other activities vary. Location: Irvine Regional Park, 1 Irvine Park Rd., Orange, CA. Cars are charged $3 parking.

PACIFICA -Fog Fest.  Celebrate the fog that creeps along the coast of Pacifica with a festival dedicated to this beloved climatic condition. Events include two days of musical entertainment, arts & crafts, activities, a parade on Saturday (begins at 10 a.m.), and competitions ranging from Historical Float, Fog Bank, Fog Jog, Coast Side Chowder and Surfboard Competition. POMONA - Los Angeles County Fair. Full of city-fied fun. Horseracing, too. (LG Championships of Freestyle Motocross at 7:30 p.m. Ticket: $17.50 - 20). Location: Fairplex at Pomona Fairgrounds. Open daily, runs through September 28, 2008.

SANTA MARIA - Cruzin' for Life 2008. Car Show Festival 9am at Santa Maria Fairpark. Downtown Broadway cruise 2pm-3pm with cancer survivors as honored guests. Streets will be closed off for cruisers only. Dinner, auction, dance at Convention Center, SM Fairpark at 5:30pm. Benefits Marian Cancer Center and American Cancer Society. SEAL BEACH - Wag n Walk. 13th Annual Wag n’ Walk by the Seal Beach Animal Care Center will be held at the Seal Beach Pier, cross street Ocean Ave. and Main, Seal Beach, CA. Time: 9 a.m.

TEMPLETON - Apple & Apple Cider Tasting at Jack Creek Farms. Sample some unusual varieties of apples you perhaps haven’t tried before. Varieties will vary depending upon the current day’s harvest. You will also have the opportunity to sample fresh 100% pure juice apple cider made from a blend of fresh in season apples. Admission is FREE! Time: 1 p.m. Cost: Free. WATSONVILLE - Willy's Show and Shines and Flea Market. The Road Angels in conjunction with Watsonville High School presents a fun fund-raiser with affordable entry $5/car; $10/flea market booth.
