CARMEL - 17th Annual NatureSweet Carmel TomatoFest®  Hot Tomato Night" Dinner & Dance at Quail Lodge Resort Ballroom. This a highlight of the Carmel TomatoFest. The dinner/dance at Quail Lodge Resort, with delicious cuisine created by an honored Celebrity Chef,  musical entertainment and surprise guests is limited to 100 persons. - Cost: $150. EUREKA - Humboldt’s Pets Have Talent Contest! - This fund-raising event at the Farm Store includes a pet talent contest all day till 2 p.m., with final contest at 3 p.m., pet adoptions, 4H BBQ, animal rescue auction with vacation packages, live music, plus a puppet show for the kids. All the local animal rescue groups will be  showing off their loving adoptable animals, and you can get your dog washed at the Heart of the Redwoods Dog Wash. All the money goes to the local animal rescue groups! Music includes St. John and the Sinners from 12-1:30; Quack n Wabbit puppet show at 12, inflatable jump houses, balloon artists and an air brush tattooist.  Time: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Location: 3956 Jacobs Ave., Eureka, CA. HUNTINGTON BEACH -Huntington Beach High School Car & Cycle Show. Held on the grounds of the high school, the event raises money for the pep squad programs. Time: 9 a.m. Cost: $5 admission. Location: 1905 Main St., Huntington Beach, CA.

LAYTONVILLE EARTHDANCE. Celebrate world peace with a music festival, earth village and break-out sessions in meditation, plus activities for the kids. LONG BEACH - World War II Nurse Edith Shain Appears. Edith Shain, the nurse in the iconic photograph of a sailor kissing a nurse in Times Square at the end of World War II, is scheduled to appear at a tea sponsored by Trans-Oceanic at the Reef Restaurant. The tea will have a World War II Victory theme and will feature a lavish assortment of sweets, fruit, and sandwiches, in addition to tea. Time: 2 p.m. Cost: $38.50, parking is free. OAKLEY - Oakley Almond Festival. Annual event now in its 19th year, Oakley Parade launches a festive weekend at 9 a.m; Carnival, Car Show, Cook-off  and other activities and events will be held at O'Hara Park, O'Hara Ave & Cypress, Oakley, CA 9456.Other events include Sports on the Delta & Boat Show, Diaper Derby and more! POMONA - Los Angeles County Fair. Full of city-fied fun. Horseracing, too. (KC & The Sunshine Band, plus Village People will appear at 8 p.m., Ticket: $19.50 - 100).  Location: Fairplex at Pomona Fairgrounds. Open daily, runs through September 28, 2008.

SAN DIEGO - EARTHDANCE - 12th Annual Earthdance event in Balboa Park to spread peace and love vibes with the entire planet! Concerts and entertainment are include Halo, Duane, Andy Gomez, Alien Tom, The Rising Sound, Alan B, Kopcho, and many more To Be Announced!. Doors Open: 11am

SAN DIEGO  - Ranchita Rocks. Benefit concert in San Diego's back country is a music festival raising money to stop construction of a 100-mile power line through a park area. SUNSET BEACH - Chili Cook-Off. The 10th Annual Chili Cook-Off is hosted jointly by the Sunset Beach Woman's Club & the Sunset Beach Community Association. Join the fun filled event, chili tasting, music, refreshments & souvenir limited edition cook-off T-shirts. $5 admission (all proceeds go to the Sunset Beach Community).
