ANAHEIM - Orange County Auto Show. Representatives from 30 leading automotive manufacturers will be on-site to answer questions and provide information on the latest vehicles. Sugar Ray will perform at this event (read next entry below this) The Orange County Auto Show is owned and presented by the Orange County Automobile Dealers Association and the Southland Motor Car Dealers Association and produced by Motor Trend Auto Shows. Time: 9 a.m. – 10 p.m. Event runs through Sunday, October 5, 2008. Cost: Location: Admission to the event is $10 for adults, $6 for seniors (62 and older) and free for children 12 and under. ANAHEIM - Sugar Ray performs. Live musical appearance by Sugar Ray at the Orange County Auto Show begins at 8 p.m. The multi-Platinum music sensations will take over the auto show floor, transforming into a rock venue. Admission to the concert is included with the purchase of an auto show ticket and attendees of all ages are welcome. The performance will take place on the auto show floor amongst more than 500 of the latest concepts, exotics, cars, trucks, sport/utility vehicles, crossovers, alternative fuel vehicles and more. AVALON - Jazz Trax Festival. 22nd annual event features three weekends of live jazz music from top artists performing at the elegant Avalon Casino Ballroom. Artists on Oct. 4 in two shows are Jackiem Joyner & LA Chillharmonic at Noon; and Acoustic Alchemy and Jesse J. at  7 p.m. Cost: $25 - 65. Location: 1 Casino Way, Avalon (Catalina Island), CA.


BIG BEAR LAKE - Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest. 38th Annual Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest Schedule of Events includes Log Sawing & Stein Holding Contests - held several times throughout the day. Safe Slam Beer Drinking contest every Saturday evening, the night in which . only persons 21 years and older will be admitted after 6:00 p.m. Families with children who have entered Oktoberfest prior to 6:00 p.m. will not be asked to leave.  Outside Budenstrasse Game Booths, Exhibitors, Petting Zoo Saturdays from 12:00 Noon to 8:00 p.m.  Price: $5 - 10 approx. CARPINTERIA - Avocado Festival. 22nd Annual California Avocado Festival (home of the world's largest vat of guacamole) is one of the largest festivals in California with three days of fabulous food, terrific music, and great safe family fun. CLOVERDALE - Scarecrow Competition. Build a scarecrow to specifications, then see if you win grand prize. Event includes musical entertainment, pie eating contest, rummage sale, BBQ and  more.


FORTUNA - Apple Harvest Festival. Celebrate apples with an apple pie contest, games, music, hayrides, BBQ and more fun at 5 locations around town.


FREMONT - Olive Festival. Annual Olive Festival, sponsored by the Mission San Jose Chamber of Commerce. CHICO - National Yoyo Contest. Held annually in Chico, home to the world's largest yoyo, this event is entertaining as it brings together the finest yoyo talent from around the globe.


HUNTINGTON BEACH - Old World Village Oktoberfest. Adults only night with a Bavarian band, live entertainment, German foods served and beers on tap, plus the pretty "shot" girls and a large dance floor. HUNTINGTON BEACH - Nami-Walks Fundraiser. This fund- raiser walk for the National Alliance of Mental Illness Orange County Chapter will host its 4th annual 5K event. LOS ANGELES - Freshpet Bark for the Cure. Griffith Park , LA.  Bark for the cure will be a 5k fun run/walk that will raise money and awareness for canine cancer research. All proceeds will benefit the Freshpet Foundation, a charity whose mission is to improve the understanding of nutrition’s role in the prevention and treatment of disease in dogs, including cancer. To participate in the run/walk, adults are asked to donate $15 per adult and $1 for dogs. Children can join for free. For those who are not participating in the 5k, but wish to attend the after event, admission is free. There will be Frisbee and agility course demonstrations, as well as freshpet fresh dog food sampling and local pet & human vendors. LOOMIS - Eggplant Festival. This 20th annual event is one of the best family-oriented events in Northern California! MOORPARK - Wild West Weekend. This 5th annual event features acts Soughdough Slim, cowboy musician Lincoln Bond, Old Town Temecula Gunfighters and cowboy poet Shirley Lorraine in this authentic country & western event at the Ventura County farm where seasons come with food. OAKLAND - Black Cowboy Parade and Festival. Marching bands, drill teams, trick riders, and lots of equine action as the "black cowyboys" in the fancy costumes present one of the nation's unique heritage and cultural events. Time: 10 a.m. parade. Festival ends at 4 p.m. Location: 14th & Broadway, Oakland, CA. Festival is at DeFremery Park.


OAKLAND - Oktoberfest in the Dimond. Oakland's first annual Oktoberfest will feature beer garden, food, dance, bands, two stages, a kids carnival and much more. Time: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Location: Fruitvale Ave. & MacArthur Blvd., Oakland, CA.


PACIFIC GROVE - Butterfly Parade and Festival.  Annual Butterfly Parade & Bazaar includes school children welcoming the Monarchs to Pacific Grove during this annual parade (10:30am), followed by the Butterfly Bazaar behind the Robert Down School. More info: 831-646-6548.

SAN FRANCISCO - Oktoberfest by the Bay. Held at Fort Mason annually, this event includes lots of live German music, dancing, food, beer and fun. Time: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. all ages, Cost: $25/adult & $5/child; Session Two runs from  6 p.m. to midnight 21+ only, Cost: $35/ adult only.


SAN RAFAEL  - Pacific Pinball Exposition. Fabulous 3 day retro event with game playing, vendors, expos, classes and more, all to raise money for a non-profit pinball museum. TEMPLETON - Pumpkin Painting Workshop at Jack Creek Farms. Paint your Jack-o-lantern instead of carving your pumpkin and it will last all month! Children ages 7 and up are welcome. UNIVERSAL STUDIOS HOLLYWOOD Halloween Horror Nights. 13 terror-filled nights of Halloweeen thrills with Freddy and Chainsaw Gang at 7pm. Tickets are available for purchase at


VACAVILLE - Vacaville Art, Wine & Brew Festival. This annual event combines beverage, fine art and music to make for good times in the quintessential California city that embodies good living. Location: Downtown Vacaville. There will be music from 10 am to 10 pm. Things kick off with RB&C Band at 10 am followed by Tamra Engle at 12 pm, Throwing Roses at 1:30 pm, The Clarences at 4 pm, Heather Combs at 6 pm and the big finish with the Skynnyrd Lynnyrd band at 7:30 pm. The Skynnyn Lynnyrd band is a local group of musicians from Vacaville and Solano County . They perform all over the country.  Also on Saturday there will be artists from the community and the Vacaville Art Gallery  painting and sculpting. There will also be an annual Wine Stroll in the afternoon and Beer Tasting too.  Entertainment is free.


YOUNTVILLE - Artist Eric Christensen. Gallery 1870 will be hosting a homecoming show for the renowned watercolor artist Eric Christensen. Christensen is self-taught and is acknowledged as one of the top wine artists in the Country. His pursuit of perfection is revealed in the reflective glass that begs to be enveloped by the viewer’s hand. Unique to Christensen is his ability to create hyper-real paintings using standard watercolors.  Refreshments will be served.
