Pinball Expo San Rafael

ANAHEIM - Orange County Auto Show. Representatives from 30 leading automotive manufacturers will be on-site to answer questions and provide information on the latest vehicles. The Orange County Auto Show is owned and presented by the Orange County Automobile Dealers Association and the Southland Motor Car Dealers Association and produced by Motor Trend Auto Shows. Time: Noon – 10 p.m. Event runs through Sunday, October 5, 2008. Cost: Location: Admission to the event is $10 for adults, $6 for seniors (62 and older) and free for children 12 and under. AVALON - Jazz Trax Festival. 22nd annual event features three weekends of live jazz music from top artists performing at the elegant Avalon Casino Ballroom. Artists on Oct. 3 are U-NAM and the Sax Pack. Time: 7:30 p.m. Cost: $25 - 65. Location: 1 Casino Way, Avalon (Catalina Island), CA.


CARPINTERIA - Avocado Festival. 22nd Annual California Avocado Festival (home of the world's largest vat of guacamole) is one of the largest festivals in California with three days of fabulous food, terrific music, and great safe family fun. Runs through October 5. Hours: Friday: 4 PM - 9 PM; Saturday: 10 AM - 9 PM; Sunday: 10 AM - 6 PM. Admission is free. Location: 900 Linden Ave. (Linden & Carpinteria Ave.), Carpinteria, CA.


CHICO - National Yoyo Contest. Held annually in Chico, home to the world's largest yoyo, this event is entertaining as it brings together the finest yoyo talent from around the globe.


HUNTINGTON BEACH - Old World Village Oktoberfest. German band, live entertainment, German foods served and beers on tap, plus the pretty "shot" girls and a large dance floor. Location: 7571 Center Ave., Huntington Beach, CA. $15 Cover/21+. Call: (714) 895-8020.

LAKEWOOD - 2008 Fall Art Contest Art Contest. Sponsored by the Lakewood Artist Guild, the art contest is open to the public. Anyone can enter! Fine Art, crafts, photography and Sculpture are accepted, Beginners thru Professionals. Time call for entries Oct. 3: 5-7pm, Oct. 4: 9a.m-12 noon. LONG BEACH  - Shipwreck - 14th annual Halloween Terrorfest at Queen Mary ship. Explore 7 terrifying mazes on and off the ship. Revamped for new thrills in 2008. Time: 7 p.m. to 12 Midnight. Cost: $34. Location: 1126 Queens Highway, Long Beach, CA.

ORANGE - Pumpkin Patch. A huge pumpkin patch and train ride are part of the fun in this 3rd annual event that includes train rides, hay rides, a haunted house, pony rides, thousands of pumpkins and more. Admission into the pumpkin patch is FREE. Prices for other activities vary. Location: Irvine Regional Park, 1 Irvine Park Rd., Orange, CA. Cars are charged $3 parking.


PACIFIC PALISADES - Grecian Taste and Roman Spirit Exhibit. The Society of Dilettanti takes delight in sex and the finer things in life at The Getty Villa. Open Thursday-Monday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Reservations required, but admission is free. Parking fee: $10/car.  Location: 17985 Pacific Coast Highway, Pacific Palisades, CA.


SAN FRANCISCO - Oktoberfest by the Bay. Held at Fort Mason annually, this event includes lots of live German music, dancing, food, beer and fun. Time: 5 p.m. all ages, Cost: $25/adult & $5/child.


SAN RAFAEL  - Pacific Pinball Exposition. Fabulous 3 day retro event with game playing, vendors, expos, classes and more, all to raise money for a non-profit pinball museum. Location: Marin County Civic Center, 10 Avenue of the Flags, San Rafael, CA. Time: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Cost: $25/day; $15/age 12 and under; Adult 3 day pass is $45.

UNIVERSAL STUDIOS HOLLYWOOD Halloween Horror Nights. 13 terror-filled nights beginning Friday, October 3 and continue on October 3-4, 10-11, 17-19, 24-26, 30-31 and November 1 beginning at 7pm. Tickets are available for purchase at


VACAVILLE - Vacaville Art, Wine & Brew Festival. This annual event combines beverage, fine art and music to make for good times in the quintessential California city that embodies good living. Location: Downtown Vacaville. Great rock and roll band, Delta Rockets, known for their Creedence Clearwater Revival stuff and oldies. They are followed by the band Evolution, A Tribute To Journey. If you haven’t heard these musicians play in the Bay Area you definitely don’t want to miss this show! Friday evening’s performances happen between 5 pm and 9 pm.   Entertainment is free.
