AVALON - Jazz Trax Festival. 22nd annual event features three weekends of live jazz music from top artists performing at the elegant Avalon Casino Ballroom. Artists in two shows are Paul Jackson Jr. and Gregg Karukas at Noon; Jeffrey Osbourne and Jesse J at  7 p.m. Cost: $25 - 65. Location: 1 Casino Way, Avalon (Catalina Island), CA.


BAKERSFIELD - Via Arte Italian Street Painting Festival. Chalk drawings fill the streets in an annual festival. Hundreds of artists participate in this event featuring entertainment, food, music and more. Location: The Marketplace in southwest Bakersfield, CA. Cost: Free. Call: (661) 323-7219.


BIG BEAR LAKE - Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest. 38th Annual Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest Schedule of Events includes Log Sawing & Stein Holding Contests - held several times throughout the day. Children's contests held Sundays at approximately 3:00 p.m.; Outside Budenstrasse Game Booths, Exhibitors, Petting Zoo Saturdays from 12:00 Noon - 5:00 p.m.  Price: $5 - 10 approx. COSTA MESA - Head to Toe Women's Expo. With an emphasis on health, happiness, style and a balanced life, the Head to Toe Women’s Expo offers something for every woman. Attendees can visit over 200 exhibits and enjoy two stages, showing off the latest trends in hair and fashion, cooking demonstrations and a host of speakers from television to authors. FILLMORE  - The Pumpkin Train. Ride a vintage train to the private pumpkin patch Ichabog. Stay for 1 to 3 hours on Jolly Jumps, Carousel, Haunted Hay Maze, arts & crafts booths, garden gifts, BBQ sandwiches sold and more. Time: 10 a.m., Noon, 2 & 4 p.m. Cost: $15 adult; $8 Age 4 -12; $6 Age 2 -3; Free for infant that sits on parents lap and doesn't occupy a seat. HALF MOON BAY - Pumpkin Festival Scarecrow Contest.  Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival, now in its 38th year, features a contest for best scarecrow held in conjunction with the weekend events next week. HUNTINGTON BEACH - Old World Village Oktoberfest. A Bavarian band, live entertainment, German foods served and beers on tap, plus the pretty "shot" girls and a large dance floor for Chicken Dance. LONG BEACH  - Shipwreck - 14th annual Halloween Terrorfest at Queen Mary ship. Explore 7 terrifying mazes on and off the ship. Revamped for new thrills in 2008. Time: 7 p.m. to 11 Midnight. Cost: $34. Location: 1126 Queens Highway, Long Beach, CA.


ORANGE - Pumpkin Patch. A huge pumpkin patch and train ride are part of the fun in this 3rd annual event that includes train rides, hay rides, a haunted house, pony rides, thousands of pumpkins and more. Admission into the pumpkin patch is FREE. Prices for other activities vary. Location: Irvine Regional Park, 1 Irvine Park Rd., Orange, CA. Cars are charged $3 parking.


PACIFIC PALISADES - Grecian Taste and Roman Spirit Exhibit. The Society of Dilettanti takes delight in sex and the finer things in life at The Getty Villa. Open Thursday-Monday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Reservations required, but admission is free. Parking fee: $10/car.  Location: 17985 Pacific Coast Highway, Pacific Palisades, CA.


PASADENA - Old Town Haunt. Descend into the basement of the historical Union Savings Bank Building where mysterious things have happened for over 107 years. Something lives down there -- the basement was sealed shut for decades but now... Time: 7  to 10 p.m. Cost: $10 - 18.50. Location: 20 N. Raymond @ Colorado, Pasadena, CA.


SAN DIEGO - Little Italy Festa. This 14th annual event celebrates the cultural heritage of one of San Diego's unique neighborhoods within the city. attracting more than 120,000 people, over 150 food, art and retail vendors and more, it is the largest Italian celebration outside New York. Located in downtown San Diego, there will be two stages (India & Date Street & Grape & India Street) featuring live music goes from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and features authentic Italian performers. A Gesso Italiana Chalk Painting Festival goes from Oct. 11 to 12 as part of the fun. Parking is at 610 W. Ash St., San Diego, CA. Cost: Free.


SANTA PAULA - Faulkner Farms Rotary Pumpkin Patch. Acres of pumpkins, a giant sunflower forest for the kids, towering hay pyramids, hay rides with historic information about the area, farm animals, pony rides, mini train rides, face painting, a country store, delicious food and great entertainment are offered in this community oriented event held weekends during Halloween season. YERMO - Calico Days at Calico Ghost Town. Step back in time and relive Calico's glory days during the 1800's mining celebration, featuring a western parade, burro run, gunfight competition, live music and more. Admission: $10 adult; $5 age 6-15; Free 5 and under.
