FERNDALE - 40th Annual Kinetic Sculpture Race. Wild and crazy people-powered sculptures traverse land, sand, and water to travel from the Arcata Plaza (10 a.m. viewing, noon start Saturday) to the finish line in the Victorian Village of Ferndale (finishing any time after noon Monday). It's all for the glory! Dessert awards ceremony open to the public, beginning around 5:30 on the 26th. Call: (707) 499-0643.


GARDEN GROVE - Strawberry Festival. 50th anniversary Strawberry Festival. For information call 714-638-0981. Hours: Monday 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Location: The Festival is held at the Village Green, between Euclid and Main Street Streets in downtown Garden Grove, California.


HUNTINGTON BEACH - Memorial Day Celebration. Held annually at Pier Plaza around 11 a.m., this event honors those who have died or have fallen in battle for their country. Community and city events held throughout California celebrate with speeches to commemorate local citizens. Location: Huntington Beach Pier Plaza, 300 PCH (approx.), Huntington Beach, CA


SACRAMENTO - Sacramento County Fair at Cal Expo, 1600 Exposition Blvd, Sacramento, California 95815. Admission free, $7/parking. Carnival passes sold. Hours: Thursday, Friday. - Noon -10 p.m.; Saturday & Sunday 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Monday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Call: (916) 263-2975.

SAN BERNARDINO - National Orange Show Festival. Runs Memorial Weekend through May 26. 93rd Annual National Orange Show celebrates Southern California's heritage as an orange growing region.  Time: 4 - 10 p.m. Location: Cost: $10 (approx.) - free for kids 5 and younger. Location: Arrowhead Avenue between Mill Street and Orange Show Road, Riverside, CA.
