ATASCADERO - Lavender Festival. Third annual lavender festival on an actual lavender farm offers good times and healthy living with entertainment, vendors and plenty of products locally grown. COSTA MESA - Orange County Fair Say Cheese. Enjoy one of the most popular urban fairs in the U.S. Pig races are an annual treat, carnival rides, food, fun, and loads of live entertainment and fun for the entire family.  Runs through Aug. 3, 2008 (closed Mondays).  Tickets: $5 - 10, kids under free 5 free. IMPERIAL BEACH - U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition and Festival. Seacoast Drive is closed for the two-day event that runs through Sunday, July 13.

LAGUNA BEACH - Art-A-Fair festival. 42nd annual art event located in a beautiful garden setting with 125 artists, plus live entertainment, fine food, demonstrations and workshops. This year's theme is "Venetian Carnival."  The event runs through Aug. 31. Location: 777 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach, Calif. MENDOCINO - 2008 Mendocino Music Festival. Celebrating its 22nd year, the Festival includes the Festival Orchestra, Chorus, and Chamber Players, plus featured performers Jesse Winchester, Stephen Prutsman, the Hot Club of San Francisco, Degenerate Music, Marriage of Figaro, Quintango, Los Pinguos, and Julian Waterfall Pollack & Friends. Held at Mendocino Headlands State Park overlooking the Pacific Ocean,  Main Street between Lansing and Kasten, Mendocino. The event runs through July 26, 2008. Shows are at 8:00 pm. OJAI - Ojai Rock Fest '08.  Location: Libbey Bowl, Ojai, CA.  Time: Noon to 10 p.m. Cost: $20 all day pass in advance. Purchase tickets at and all Ticketmaster outlets.

SANTA BARBARA - French Festival Bastille Day Celebration.  21st Annual French Festival held on Bastille Day Weekend, July 12 & 13, in Santa Barbara's Oak Park is where America celebrates France... and what's best is that it is free! Billed as the largest French celebration in the Western United States, French chefs cook cuisine from crepes to quiche, a huge huge Eiffel Tower and French-themed entertainment on three stages: cancan, Edith Piaf, Maurice Chevalier, Josephine Baker, hot jazz a la Django Reinhart and music and dance the entire time. accordions, Also don't miss the Poodle Parade and c Fatales Drag Review. SANTA MARIA - Santa Barbara County Fair "Rock Around the Clock". 117th annual event includes food, live entertainment with top act, carnival and local competitions, plus livestock. July 12 entertainment includes the car destruction derby. Open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
