BREA - Big Wednesday Car Show. Location: Bobby McGee's Restaurant, 200 S. State College Blvd., Brea, Ca. (714) 529-1998. Time: 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.


DEL MAR - San Diego County Fair - Summer of Sports is the theme for the fifth largest fair in North America.  The San Diego County Fair features the largest midway in the region and top-name performing artists on the grandstand stage, while maintaining its traditional county fair attractions including: Livestock, Home & Hobby, Woodworking, an award-winning Flower Show, great rides and a variety of food and commercial concessions. "Summer of Sports" will celebrate a wide variety of sports at all levels, from youth to professional. Fair runs through July 6, 2008.  Location: 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd., Del Mar, California.


PALM SPRINGS - Palm Springs Restaurant Week. The inaugural Palm Springs Restaurant Week spotlights the desert oasis as a premier culinary destination. Organized by Palm Springs Restaurant Association, the six-day event provides local foodies and visitors alike the opportunity to savor extraordinary three-course, prix fixe menus from more than 40 participating restaurants for $26 to $36 per person depending on the restaurant (beverage, tax and gratuity not included). List of restaurants available on web site. Reservations recommended.


PETALUMA - 2008 Sonoma-Marin Fair. Sustainable Agriculture Showcase, World’s Ugliest Dog Contest and Lucha Libre wrestling, wine garden, musical acts and Destruction Derby are some of this fair's top draws. There was even scandal when someone tried to rig the online voting results of the Ugliest Dog contest. This year should be equally intriguing, and exciting. Cost: $15 (approx.) one price admission includes carnival rides. - Free under 3 years of age. Location: 175 Fairgrounds Drive, Petaluma, CA. STOCKTON - San Joaquin Fair.  The annual event will include games, livestock, produce, concerts, entertainment , contests, food vendors, a carnival and much more. Cost: $8/adult; $5/age 6-12; Free under 6 years. $25/carnival ride wrist band. Location:  San Joaquin Fairgrounds, 1658 South Airport Way, Stockton, California 95206. Phone: (209) 466-5041.


VENTURA - Photos of The Past on a Plate: The Photographs of John Calvin Brewster. Explore Ventura County life between 1874 and 1909, captured on the glass plate negatives of Ventura’s first photographer. Brewster’s images, as well as artifacts from the museum collection, provide a glimpse into that time period’s streets, neighborhoods, movers & shakers, and ordinary citizens. Location: 89 S. California Street, Ventura, California 93001. Hours: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, Saturday & Sunday. 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Admission: Free.
