ALTADENA - Christmas Tree Lane (actually Santa Rosa Avenue, between Woodbury Avenue and Altadena Drive) in Altadena is one of the oldest Christmas lighting spectacles in Southern California. It became a tradition in 1920 when a local named Nash decided to brighten up the holiday with some lights on the quickly growing Deodars that the Woodbury Family, founders of Altadena, planted in 1885.  Nearly 135 Deodar Cedar trees are decorated by the Christmas Tree Lane Association in what's known as  “Mile of Christmas Trees” (containing 10,000 lights.)  The oldest large-scale outdoor Christmas display in the world is a designated California Historical Landmark No. 990 and listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

ANAHEIM - Disneyland's Holiday Celebration includes Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle, “Believe … in Holiday Magic” fireworks show, Santa’s Reindeer Round-up, A Christmas Fantasy parade, Haunted Mansion Holiday and It’s a Small World holiday. CARLSBAD - Holiday Block Party at Legoland Carlsbad. The 10th annual Holiday Block Party includes twinkling lights, jolly music and a 30-foot Lego Christmas tree, plus nightly fireworks at closing time. There's also a life-sized Santa and reindeer built entirely from LEGO, and special holiday-themed entertainment. Location: 1 Legoland Drive, Carlsbad, CA. 

CARMICHAEL - Holiday House Display - More than just lights, many say this event rivals the Bellagio water show in Las Vegas. Over 2 million computer-controlled actions or "states" per song create one of the best light and music shows you'll find. Visitors are invited to bring canned good donations. FREMONT - Train of Lights is an actual train that offers a holiday light display in a 75 minute ride between Niles and Sunol. The brightly decorated holiday train, covered with thousands of lights, as it winds through the darkness of Niles Canyon on a 75-minute round-trip ride from either Niles or Sunol runs through Dec. 29, seating is limited.  Time: 4:15 & 6:45 p.m. from Niles & 4:30 & 7 p.m. from Sunol. GARDEN GROVE - The Glory of Christmas Musical. A blend of Christmas carols, pageantry, live animals, flying angels, and special effects unfold in the nativity story. HUNTINGTON BEACH - Sunset Gondola Boat Tour and Tickets. Visit the lighted homes of Huntington Harbour in your personal gondola ride. Skip the lines, avoid the bus ride to the boat dock, and hop aboard the beautiful authentic gondolas of your hosts Tyson or Tim and see the Huntington Harbour decorated homes for this special annual home decorating contest seen from the canals of Huntington Beach. LONG BEACH  - Harbor Lights Christmas Cruise. See the decorated homes and boats of Naples Island on a one-hour cruise aboard the 140 passenger Party Boat, The Star. Offering a cash bar with beer, wine, cocktails and snacks for kids, there's also some sweets, cocoa and foods to munch on for adults.  Christmas Cruise departs from Alamitos Bay Landing, 140 Marina Dr., Long Beach, CA 90803. LOS ANGELES - Reindeer at the Zoo. See Santa, make reindeer antlers and see live reindeer at this holiday event each weekend through December. LOS ANGELES - Holiday Light Festival. 13th Annual Los Angeles Department of Water and Power holiday lights event in Griffith Park is a display of lights spanning a mile of Crystal Springs Drive. The driving route, walking and shuttles all run through December 30. Walkers on these days will enjoy the walking path. Both options are accessible from the Los Angeles Zoo parking lot. LOS ANGELES - Downtown on Ice. Holiday ice rink is an annual event with free concerts and paid ice skating at temporary rink constructed at Pershing Square near the Civic Center. Rink is open daily through Jan. 19, 2009. Time: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays, and open until 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Cost: $6/ adult, $3 child 4 to 12, free age 3 & under. REDONDO BEACH - Los Angeles Ballet The Nutcracker. Los Angeles Ballet’s original production of The Nutcracker reflects the city in which it is based. With choreography by Thordal Christensen and Colleen Neary and set design by LA designer and illustrator Catherine Kanner, the production honors the company’s mission to maintain an artistic collaboration that invites all genres to participate. SAN DIEGO - Divine Performing Arts World Tour. The 2009 World Tour launches in 2008 with inspired  spirits of an ancient culture. Divine Performing Arts brings to life classical Chinese dance and music in a gloriously colorful show. SAN FRANCISCO -  San Francisco Ballet's The Nutcracker. As the company that introduced the first American version of The Nutcracker, San Francisco Ballet's current production under the direction of the esteemed Helgi Tomasson is recognized as one of the finest ballet presentations anywhere. SAN JOSE - Downtown Ice. Outdoor ice skating rink is open through early January in the stately-palm court and features over 8,000 square feet of ice in an arena and circular outer rink. SAN JOSE - The Nutcracker. Ballet San Jose Silicon Valley Nutcracker features a spectacular stage presentation of the beloved holiday ballet. SANTA ANA - The Science of Gingerbread display of award-winning gingerbread houses. Gingerbread offers so many tactile and visual learning opportunities, while having fun. THOUSAND OAKS - Sister's Christmas Catechism. From the creator of Late Nite Catechism, this comedy involves audiences with Sister's effort to solve the age old mystery of what happened to the Magi’s gold.
