Don't rain on my parade. Possibly the busiest parade season for Californians is December when a host of Christmas and holiday parades march down the Main Streets of towns, and the yacht owners steer their decorated vessels into the channels of the California coast inlets and bays for lighted boat parades.

 

NEWPORT BEACH -Newport Landing Christmas Boat Parade Cruise. Newport Landing has 5 ships that offer 2 cruises nightly during the parade. The first cruise departs at 5:45 pm and the second cruise departs at 8:00 pm. Each cruise is in the parade. Reservations are required and can be made by phone or email. 100th Annual Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade is the premier Christmas event not only for Orange County and Los Angeles but Southern California. With 100 years of history the Newport Harbor Christmas Boat Parade is a tradition for generations. NEWPORT BEACH - Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade. Boat owners in Newport Harbor “deck the hulls” of their seagoing vessels for the annual Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade. Ranked one of the Top Ten holiday happenings in the nation by the New York Times, the parade features approximately 100 elaborately decorated boats and draws more than one million spectators each year. SUNSET BEACH - No Parade. This non-event is an understated parade of a few cars and people held to celebrate Christmas spirit. Date is Tentative, and based on 2007 date.
 

 

ANAHEIM - Disneyland's Holiday Celebration includes Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle, “Believe … in Holiday Magic” fireworks show, Santa’s Reindeer Round-up, A Christmas Fantasy parade, Haunted Mansion Holiday and It’s a Small World holiday. COLUMBIA - A Miner's Christmas. Costumed interpreters recreate the mining camp of the 1850s, as homesick miners roast chestnuts and hot cider, and perform live music for park visitors. 19th century toys and games, Victorian Holiday craft making, and Christmas storytelling make this an enjoyable experience for the entire family,

COSTA MESA - Free Train Rides. Orange County Model Engineers club operates 1/8th scale trains in Fairview Park that the public are invited to watch and ride. The 12 minute journey includes a trip around the park, picnic tables for parties and a gift shop with train and logo related items for children and adults. Time: 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

FREMONT - Train of Lights is an actual train that offers a holiday light display in a 75 minute ride between Niles and Sunol. The brightly decorated holiday train, covered with thousands of lights, as it winds through the darkness of Niles Canyon on a 75-minute round-trip ride from either Niles or Sunol runs through Dec. 29, seating is limited.  Time: 4:15 & 6:45 p.m. from Niles & 4:30 & 7 p.m. from Sunol. LOS ANGELES - Downtown on Ice. Holiday ice rink is an annual event with free concerts and paid ice skating at temporary rink constructed at Pershing Square near the Civic Center. LOS ANGELES - Holiday Light Festival. 13th Annual Los Angeles Department of Water and Power holiday lights event in Griffith Park is a display of lights spanning a mile of Crystal Springs Drive. The driving route, walking and shuttles all run December 8 through December 30. Shuttle buses are available. Walkers on these days will enjoy the walking path. LOS ANGELES - Los Angeles Ballet The Nutcracker. Los Angeles Ballet’s original production of The Nutcracker reflects the city in which it is based.
