FOUNTAIN VALLEY - Kids Fishing Derby. Annual Free Kids Fishing Derby at Mile Square Regional Park in Fountain Valley makes every kid a winner in a contest sponsored by the County of Orange, Harbors, Beaches and Parks (HBP).  The lucky angler who catches the largest trout will win a prize package worth more than $500. There are three age divisions in the derby, including seven and under; eight to 11 and 12 to 15. Registration begins at 7 am. The derby runs from 9 a.m. to noon followed by the awards ceremony. California Department of Fish and Game’s Fishing in the City Program assists with the event. Volunteers offer help to kids and they also provide California fishing regulations and marine education. They will have a limited amount of loaner rod and reels available for young anglers. Parents must provide proper identification for loaner rods to be issued for their child. Mile Square Regional Park's South Lake was stocked December 24, 2007 with 600 pounds of trout. The South Lake is located at Warner Avenue and Euclid Street. A California fishing license required for anglers 16 years or older and California Fish and Game fishing rules apply in this lake. Location: 16801 Euclid, Fountain Valley, CA.

ANDERSON - Love Your Pet Expo. Love Your Pet Expo is a Play Day for Animals and Their 2-Legged Friends. The event starts with a pet parade led by the Anderson High School flag team. 3,000 pet people are expected to join the festivities this year, with many of them marching with their costumed critters in the Welcome Parade, starting at 9:30 AM.  Lassen Hall's Natural Balance/Petco Pavillion will include Rally Obedience, Flyball, and Agility. Prizes  for "Smartest Dog" competition, vendors, exhibits, door prizes, giveaways, literature, and demonstrations such as doggie dancing, search and rescue, and animal massage techniques. Anderson High School jazz band will perform and there will also be a kids' craft workshop for easy-to-make pet toys, handouts, and coloring pages to take home. The barn will boast llamas, miniature donkeys, and more. Food vendors will offer sandwiches, teriyaki bowls, and smoothies, plus other snacks and beverages. CHINO - Civil War Re-enactment. Prado Regional Park 16700 S. Euclid Ave, Chino, CA 91708 Park Phone number (909) 974-4260. Park opens at 7:00 but event doesn’t open until 9:00 A.M. Two battles, living history and encampments daily, camps are open from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Food vendors will sell food during the event. CLOVIS - Table Mountain Casino Big Hat Days. Old Town Clovis annual event with 400 food and crafts booths, music in the Beverage Gardens and carnival rides. Location: Old Town Clovis, CA. Call: (559) 299-7363.

LOMPOC - People's Day at Mission La Purisima.  It's 1822 at the mission as costumed docents and staff portray life of the mission during that era. Time: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Location: Highway 246 near Lompoc.

MALIBU - Malibu Film Festival Ninth Edition Dates. Malibu Film Festival is a premiere festival that includes  lavish breach-front parties. All screenings and special events for the 9th Malibu Film Festival take place in Malibu and a portion of the film screening tickets will benefit Malibu charities. NAPA -  Rhythm Shoes. Rhythm In Shoes Banjo Dance: A Celebration of American Spirit is foot-stomping, hand clapping amalgam of America's cultural heritage presented by Napa Valley Opera House. SAN FRANCISCO - Battle in the Bay Triathlons. Athletes from West Coast participate in a full weekend of competition, camping, and post-race festivities. Battle in the Bay Triathlons 2008 will include: West Coast Collegiate Triathlon Conference Championship, West Coast Team Championship. SAN FRANCISCO -  Grand National Rodeo.  Grand National Rodeo, Horse and Stock Show is one of California's largest, most prestigious rodeo events. SANTA ROSA - Santa Rosa Boat, RV, & Sport Show. A large Boat / RV expo includes ski and fishing boats, motorhomes, travel trailers, tent trailers, off-road vehicles, camping equipment and outdoor gear. Kids free trout fishing pond, kayak rides, pony rides, a climbing wall, and giant slide make for entertainment for the entire family.
