FERNDALE - Humboldt County Fair.112th Annual Humboldt County Fair. Horse races, mule races, sheep dog trials, livestock, carnival rides, arts & handicrafts, food, floriculture and much more! Founded in 1896, this is the oldest uninterrupted county fair in California. Runs through Aug. 17. Call: (707) 786-9511.

FULLERTON - Fullerton Downtown Farmers Market. The Market offers farm fresh produce, food, kids activities (nominal fee), live entertainment (6:30-8:30 pm), and a beer & wine garden. Event cost is free. Runs every Thursday through October 16, 2008. Time: 4 to 8:30 p.m. Location: 121 E. Wilshire Ave. , Fullerton , Ca 92832 (between Harbor Blvd & Pomona Ave.)

FULLERTON - Dog Days of Summer. It’s a day just for the dogs! Bring your furry friend and enter our wacky contests, check out dog demonstrations and visit dog-related vendors. Contest sign-ups begin at 4:00pm and are open to the first 10 dogs. This event takes place in conjunction with the Fullerton Market. Call (714) 738-6545. Time: 4 to 8:30 p.m. Location: Fullerton Downtown Plaza – 121 E. Wilshire Ave, Fullerton, CA.  Cost: Free.

HUNTINGTON BEACH - Outdoor Movies at Pier Plaza. Fundraiser sponsored by Tripadvisor will offer free showing of the movie, Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Movie begins at dark. Bring suitcase, backpack donations. Location: Pacific Coast Highway at Main Street north of the HB Pier, Huntington Beach, CA (approx).  Cost: free.

MONTEREY- Monterey County Fair at Monterey County Fairgrounds. Enjoy live entertainment, carnival rides, games, contests, music, food vendors and a whole lot of fun. Event runs through Aug. 17, 2008.

NEWPORT BEACH - Summer Sunset Cocktail Cruises. Hornblower’s New Summer Sunset Cocktail Cruises! Held every Thursday through September 4, Hornblower is celebrating summer by introducing our New Summer Sunset Cocktail Cruises! You’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the sunset from the deck of a Hornblower yacht and a front row seat to view the sailboat races. Hornblower’s two-hour Cocktail Cruise features complimentary appetizers, drink specials and amazing views. The appetizer menu varies but may include favorites such as, chips and salsa, fresh garden crudités with herbed ranch dressing, Jamaican seasoned beef skewers with mango-pineapple salsa, firecracker chicken with chili cream, and vegetable spring rolls with ginger plum sauce. Tickets are $28 per person plus tax. Boarding begins at 6:00pm and cruises from 6:30pm- 8:30pm. The cruise is open to the public and reservations are required. Location: 2431 W. SAN MATEO - San Mateo County Fair and Bay Meadows Thoroughbred Horse Racing. Contests, carnival, livestock, crafts, home arts and animal competitions, top musical acts, petting zoo and pig racing are but a few of the attractions and events at this popular bay area fair.
