ALTADENA - Christmas Tree Lane (actually Santa Rosa Avenue, between Woodbury Avenue and Altadena Drive) in Altadena is one of the oldest Christmas lighting spectacles in Southern California. It became a tradition in 1920 when a local named Nash decided to brighten up the holiday with some lights on the quickly growing Deodars that the Woodbury Family, founders of Altadena, planted in 1885.  Nearly 135 Deodar Cedar trees are decorated by the Christmas Tree Lane Association in what's known as  “Mile of Christmas Trees” (containing 10,000 lights.)  The oldest large-scale outdoor Christmas display in the world is a designated California Historical Landmark No. 990 and listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

BURBANK -  12 Days of Holiday Cheer - Events range from happenings in Downtown Burbank, at Burbank Town Center and the City of Burbank Mayor's Tree-Lighting ceremony. Also featured are a Downtown parade, merchant and restaurant events, strolling musicians, choirs and family favorites like Snow Day, Reindeer Run and Breakfast with Santa. downtown-burbank.org

 

CARMICHAEL - Holiday House Display - More than just lights, many say this event rivals the Bellagio water show in Las Vegas. Over 2 million computer-controlled actions or "states" per song create one of the best light and music shows you'll find. Visitors are invited to bring canned good donations. CORONADO - Skating by The Sea. Three-hour skating sessions will be offered daily from 2 to 5 pm and 6 to 9 pm. A special matinee skating sessions from 11 am to 1 pm will occur on weekends and holidays. 3-hour session: $20/adults; $15/ages 10 years and under; 2-hour matinee session $15/adult; $10/ages 10 years and under. GARDEN GROVE - The Glory of Christmas Musical. A blend of Christmas carols, pageantry, live animals, flying angels, and special effects unfold in the nativity story. HUNTINGTON BEACH - Huntington Beach Christmas Boat Parade will take place along the channels and waterways of Huntington Harbour.  To park, you must find spots outside the islands. They are closed to car traffic (except residents) during this event. Time: Begins at dusk, around 5:30 p.m. Lasts about two hours.  Cost: Free to watch.

 

LAGUNA BEACH -  Sawdust Winter Fantasy 2007 Festival. Sawdust Winter Fantasy Festival features over 175 artists and creators with original, handcrafted gift items that include: hand blown glass, ceramics, clothing, ornaments, jewelry, painting, sculpture and so much more. Admission includes complimentary art project for all ages, entertainment, 3 outdoor caf├ęs and artist demonstrations including glass blowing. NEVADA CITY - Victorian Christmas. Ring in the Christmas holiday with an old-fashioned street fair with crafts, foods from local restaurants and specialty shops. OAKLAND - Christmas Revels. The California Revels celebrate Winter Solstice with a play in the tradition of  19th century English countryside with music, dance and drama. OXNARD - Victorian Christmas House Tours.  Take a tour of the houses in Heritage Square all dressed up for Christmas! Docents, dressed in period clothing, guide visitors through the 1800’s-style Victorian houses that are filled with history and interesting tales. Refreshments are included in the admission price. OXNARD - Christmas Tree Lane, “F” and “G” Streets houses in the Henry T. Oxnard Historical District are brightly decorated for the holidays. Visitors are welcome to take a leisurely drive or stroll down Christmas Tree Lane. Hours run from 6 to 10 p.m. Call 1-800-269-6273. Time: 6 to 10 p.m.

SAN DIEGO - San Diego Boat Parade of Lights. A Pirate's Christmas is the theme of the 37th Annual Port boat parade.  Free Viewing! The spectacular boat parade of lights features individually holiday decorated private craft. The boat parade starts at the southwest end of Shelter Island, travels past Harbor Island, the Embarcadero, Seaport Village, the Convention Center, the Coronado Island Marriott Hotel, the Coronado Ferry Landing Marketplace and ends at the Navy carrier turning basin. Fireworks begin at 5:30pm, Light Parade begins immediately following 5:30-9pm. For boaters wishing to view the parade, a good viewing area is where the parade route turns for Coronado, near the 10th Street Terminal. For those viewing on land, the north and south ends of the Embarcadero as well as the pathway along Coronado are good spots as they tend to be less crowed. If you plan on viewing the parade from Harbor Island, get there early and be aware that parking is at a premium. Another good spot is the park behind Seaport Village. sdparadeoflights.org

 

RIVERSIDE - A Christmas Carol Performance. Time: 2:00 p.m. at Riverside Community Players. $12 registration fee includes one performance ticket. Additional performance tickets may be purchased at $8 each. To register, call 951-788-7008.

 

SACRAMENTO - The Nutcracker performed by Sacramento Ballet, the annual event is better than ever.  Time: 1 p.m. Location: Sacramento Community Theater, Community Center Theater, 1301 L Street, Sacramento, CA. SALINAS - Streets of Bethlehem Living Nativity. Over 300 actors, animals, music and a Christmas tradition re-enacted in the streets of Salinas by First Christian Church. SAN JOSE - The Nutcracker. Ballet San Jose Silicon Valley Nutcracker features a spectacular stage presentation of the beloved holiday ballet. SAN JOSE - Downtown Ice skating rink is open through 1/13/08 in the stately-palm court and features over 8,000 square feet of ice in an arena and circular outer rink. SAN RAFAEL - The Nutcracker by Marin Ballet. SANTA ANA - Nutcracker Ballet. Anaheim Ballet Nutcracker in the spectacular venue, the OC Pavilion, is sure to delight all ages. the holidays bring us back to our traditions and one of the warmest of all is the Nutcracker ballet. The Nutcracker is a cornerstone of seasonal family entertainment and tradition. For holiday cheer, nothing beats the spectacle of towering Christmas trees, waltzing flowers, battling toy soldiers and menacing mice. The Nutcracker story remains a source of inspiration for audiences of all ages and interests.
