 Events in California in early November offer concerts, festivals and tours celebrating the cultural heritage and history of California. December 1 truly marks the season of celebrating for parades, festivals and fairs in California. Holiday-themed Christmas events top the list, while more generic fairs and fun can be found.

BELMONT SHORE - Belmont Shore Christmas Parade. 25th Anniversary Belmont Shore parade theme is ‘DOG DAYS OF CHRISTMAS’ in honor of the canine community of Belmont Shore and to tie in with the American Kennel Club/Eukanuba National Championship taking place in Long Beach the same weekend. Upwards of 70,000 spectators are anticipated to line 2nd Street to watch marching bands, local personalities, and floats representing local businesses and non-profit organizations, the Mayor of Long Beach, and Santa Claus, of course! Time:  4:00pm to 6:00pm lineup.


BURBANK -  12 Days of Holiday Cheer - Events range from happenings in Downtown Burbank, at Burbank Town Center and the City of Burbank Mayor's Tree-Lighting ceremony. Also featured are a Downtown parade, merchant and restaurant events, strolling musicians, choirs and family favorites like Snow Day, Reindeer Run and Breakfast with Santa.

CAPITOLA - Capitola Village Tree Lighting Ceremony. Bring a non-breakable ornament to place on the tree and be a part of this memorable event! Fun holiday festivities planned every weekend in December in beautiful Capitola Village! Where: Esplanade Park Bandstand. Decorating from 2-5pm. Tree Lighting Ceremony at 5 PM. Lights & Ornaments! CARMICHAEL - Holiday House Display - More than just lights, many say this event rivals the Bellagio water show in Las Vegas. Over 2 million computer-controlled actions or "states" per song create one of the best light and music shows you'll find. Visitors are invited to bring canned good donations. Time: Sunday - Thursday 6pm-9pm; Friday-Saturday 6pm-10pm. Location: 6425 Meadowhill Court, Carmichael, CA 95608. Directions: Go North on Fair Oaks Blvd from Arden Way. CORONADO - Skating by The Sea. Three-hour skating sessions will be offered daily from 2 to 5 pm and 6 to 9 pm. A special matinee skating sessions from 11 am to 1 pm will occur on weekends and holidays. 3-hour session: $20/adults; $15/ages 10 years and under; 2-hour matinee session $15/adult; $10/ages 10 years and under. GARDEN GROVE - The Glory of Christmas Musical. A blend of Christmas carols, pageantry, live animals, flying angels, and special effects unfold in the nativity story. LAGUNA BEACH -  Sawdust Winter Fantasy 2007 Festival. Sawdust Winter Fantasy Festival features over 175 artists and creators with original, handcrafted gift items that include: hand blown glass, ceramics, clothing, ornaments, jewelry, painting, sculpture and so much more. Admission includes complimentary art project for all ages, entertainment, 3 outdoor caf├ęs and artist demonstrations including glass blowing. MORRO BAY -Lighted Boat Parade. Morro Bay welcomes the holidays with its annual Lighted Boat Parade in the harbor. From 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. , a parade of boats decorated in lights will cruise the harbor. During the day visitors can enjoy dining and shopping in Morro Bay , live music and the Fishermen & Farmer's Market.  Location: Downtown Morro Bay near the waterfront.


OXNARD - Hometown Holidays Christmas Parade. The annual hometown-style parade features local bands, floats and youth groups. Parade time: 10 a.m. Location: Downtown Oxnard. Call the Oxnard Convention & Visitors Bureau at 1-800-269-6273. Free.

POMONA - November 30- December 2, 2007 POMONA - Pomona Harvest Festival Original Art & Craft Show. Time: Friday 9am-7pm, Saturday 10am-7pm, Sunday 10am-5pm. Address: Fairplex-LA County Fairgrounds, 1101 W. McKinley Ave , Pomona, CA. Cost: Adults: $8, Seniors (62+) $7, Youth (13-17) $4; 12 & Under Free. Tickets valid for re-entry all weekend long. REDONDO BEACH - Celebrity Santa arrives at the Redondo Beach Pier for Christmas cheer, meeting the kids. Santa is available for photo ops from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.


SAN FRANCISCO - Fillmore Holiday Stroll and Day of Jazz and Lights. Fillmore Street Holiday Stroll and Day of Jazz & Lights is a holiday celebration which will include live jazz music from 12-6 pm, holiday specials and trunk shows at many stores. On the corner of Fillmore and Clay Street from 3-5 pm, shoppers can stroll by the PG&E display to obtain a free energy saving product.


SAN FRANCISCO - Embarcadero Ice Skating.  Daily through January 15, 2008.  Location: Justin Herman Plaza, San Francisco, CA 94111. Ages: 3 and up.


SAN JOSE - Downtown Ice skating rink is open through 1/13/08 in the stately-palm court and features over 8,000 square feet of ice in an arena and circular outer rink. Time: 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. weeknights; Noon to Midnight on weekends; Special holiday hours, subject to to confirm. Cost: $12-$14. Skate all you want first-come, first-serve. SAN LUIS OBISPO - Christmas in the Plaza . The plaza in front of the Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa in downtown San Luis Obispo is the site for the annual holiday craft fair, Christmas in the Plaza , from 10 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 1 and Sunday, December 2. The two-day event features handcrafted items, food and entertainment. On December 2, the popular holiday carousel opens to the public.


SAN SIMEON - Christmas at Hearst Castle. Visitors on the Experience Tour will be able to enjoy Hearst Castle all decked out in lavish Christmas decorations. The Assembly Room, The Refectory and The Morning Room will be adorned with hand-made garlands, brilliant red poinsettias, and two 18-foot Christmas trees fully decorated with lights and traditional ornaments. Experience Tour prices are $20 for adults and $10 for youth (ages 6 to 17). Reservations are highly recommended for this very popular tour. (runs through Dec.31) Saturday, December 1, 2007

SOLVANG - Annual Christmas Parade  - 2007 Theme: "Yuletide: A Scandinavian Christmas." 11 AM-Noon. Begins at Mission Santa Ines, travels down Mission Drive, turns left on Fourth Place, left on Copenhagen Drive all the way east, and ends at the Post Office on Alisal Road. Open House - Solvang Toyland, 10 AM-5 PM, 1664 Copenhagen Drive. Meet Santa Claus in Solvang Park following the parade. Caricatures by Aidan Terry. Noon-1 PM. TEMPLETON - Cowboy Christmas. 5th Annual Cowboy Christmas is a hollerin' good time for all ages. Cowboy Christmas is held in Templeton Community Park. Guests will enjoy a visit from Santa Claus, who arrives by stagecoach, real snow for the kids, hayrides, pony rides, art and craft booths, refreshments, and country and Christmas music. Time: 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Location: Downtown Templeton, CA

SAN MARCOS - San Marcos Holiday 13th Annual City of San Marcos' Santa's Magical Village. Time: 3 - 8 p.m.  Annual Tree Lighting ceremony, with Jolly Ole Nick himself at 7 p.m., followed by a special performance by Theater West. Civic Center Holiday Village, San Marcos, CA.


SANTA CRUZ - Downtown Holiday Parade. 10 am to Noon. Don't miss this Santa Cruz Holiday tradition. Each year the street fills with music, floats, classic cars, dancers and much much more. Bring the whole family to enjoy the parade or get your friends together and be in it this year. As always finishing up the parade will be the big man in the red suit!! SANTA MARIA -   Christmas in the Wine Caves - Cottonwood Canyon will fete guests with delicious fare, classical entertainment and, of course, plenty of great wine. Guests are encouraged to dress for a party, but don’t forget wraps and jackets as temperatures are cool and crisp in this dramatic setting located at 3940 Dominion Road in Santa Maria.
