Beverly Hills, CA - Travel and Things To Do

Historically and collectively, we just can't get enough of Beverly Hills. Amazing weather, astonishing views and an austere romantic past that can still make a lover blush today. From the Beverly Hills Speedway to the filming of 90210, the city of Beverly Hills has seen it all and if you're planning to see Beverly Hills, don't skip this.

We all know something about Beverly Hills: it is the most filmed city in the country. But there's so much more than just pop culture to the richest per capita city in the USA.

First you should know there's a few things you won't find in Beverly Hills, things like phone lines, billboards or power lines. Keep in mind you also won't find a cemetery or a hospital.

One thing you should see is Greystone Mansion Park, once owned by the son of oil baron Edward Doheny, it is now owned by the city of Beverly Hills. The mansion boasts spectacular gardens and courtyards as well as an immaculate mansion with unbelievable interiors carefully restored by the Greystone Society and the city of Beverly Hills. They will even let you plan your wedding there. During the summer the mansion hosts a day camp; you can check their website for details to add this to your itinerary.

Of course while you're there you'll want to see the architecture and the parks, but you have to see the Beverly Hills Library to believe it. There is always a fascinating exhibition to visit and a fun and exciting children's library as well. Just remember adjacent parking is free only for the first two hours and then it costs $1.00 for every half hour after that.

Stop by the Frederick R Weisman Art Foundation. While this art museum is not well known it is home to some great art pieces from Picasso to Warhol. A great place to sneak a little culture into your vacation. You can get tour information in advance of your trip at the

Take a quick peek at Beverly Hills High School: believe it or not it has a working oil well right on campus. This is not something you see everyday. This is the school that Jack Abramoff, Monica Lewinsky, Nicolas Cage and Alicia Silverstone attended. Their famous alumni are too numerous to list.

If it's shopping you're after then there's no place quite like Rodeo Drive and do include Two Rodeo Drive. It's not a shopping trip you'll soon forget. These shops cater to the most discriminating tastes in the world and you are sure to find something you can't live without. There's also Spa 415, the Aurora Foot Spa and the Peninsula Spa offering facials and full body treatments that would make any woman, or man for that matter, feel like a million bucks.

Although the city is commonly known for its movie stars, wonderful food and stellar shopping, what is lesser known is that the developer named Beverly Hills after Beverly, Massachusetts because the scenery was so similar. It's easy to imagine him standing there admiring those romantic rolling hills. Could he have barely imagined the success that his city has seen? Who knows, but we're glad he named it, and the city has maintained its fame and popularity through thick and thin. This city is more than just a town, it's an icon of American history, from the wild wild west, oil barons and movie stars to 21st century technology.
