Huntington Beach, Calif.- Huntington Beach is the ideal spot to bring kids on vacation. It is also a great place to have a family and raise children.


The amenities for kids are awesome. In addition, a top notch school system offers opportunities in academics, arts and entertainment.


But just for fun, the family life enhances the upbringing of children. Some believe that growing up in an urban environment can be a bit too much exposure for children, which is why Huntington Beach, a city of 200,000, is the perfect size for kids.


The downtown Main Street and beach, for instance, offer many activities for youth. From dining and shopping to beach sports, there's plenty to keep the children entertained. Summers at the beach can include surfing, swimming, Junior Lifeguards program, skating, bicycling and volleyball in the sand. The local schools have surfing teams, which brings the beach even closer into the lives of kids who must go to the ocean and practice for competition with their teammates and coaches.


There are over 70 parks in the city of Huntington Beach, offering playgrounds, slides, swings, grass lawns, sand pits, courts, nets and four facilities in the city offer indoor table sports and community classes as well.


Outside the city are major theme parks, Disneyland, California Adventure, Knott's Berry Farm, Soak City, Universal Studios Hollywood, Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific, Legoland, San Diego Zoo, San Diego Wild Animal Park, SeaWorld, and Six Flags Magic Mountain. All are within 30 minutes to two hours distance. Now that's a lot of kids entertainment.


Summer programs such as the Central Park Adventure Playground allow children to be kids, playing on rafts, building forts and enjoying getting dirty.


Libraries such as Central Library with its excellent children's wing provides learning, puppet shows, story times, and more. Another community involved private enterprise catering to kids is Barnes & Noble at Bella Terra mall.


There's just so much for children to see and do using Huntington Beach as a home base that once you visit and stick around a little while, you'll notice the children light up with joy. At that point, you have to consider moving to the city if you don't already reside in Surf City.
