American Canyon is Napa County's newest city and one of its fastest growing areas. Established in 1992, the region appears mostly rural but evidence of recent housing development provides a glimpse into the future.

Napa County is a tremendously popular area for tourists and a highly desirable place to live. Since many areas of Napa Valley and Napa County are bound by laws that prohibit rapid growth, American Canyon offers the region's best hope of expansion. While one new hotel was recently opened and many more are sure to come in the future, folks have been raving about Gaia Napa Valley Hotel.

Shady trees, horses fenced in yards and a roadside market are some of the signposts to American Canyon. Located approximately 35 miles north of San Francisco at the southern end of Napa Valley and Napa County near the City of Vallejo, the city is surrounded by natural beauty. There's a  500-acre Wetlands Preservation area to the west, the 640-acre Jack & Bernice Newell Wilderness Preserve to the east and foothills of the Sulphur Springs Mountain Range to the northeast.  Approximately 15 miles south of City of Napa,  American Canyon retains country charm while providing access to the major highways serving San Francisco and Napa.

Highway 29 - Napa Valley Wine Trail runs north and south through the city, Highway 12 and I-80 about three miles east and Sonoma County is west of American Canyon.

Community events include the 4th of July Parade, Celebration and Fireworks, the American Canyon 5K and 10K Run, Art Studio Tours and Friday Nights at the Plaza. The city features a Recreation Center at 2185 Elliott Drive, local bus transportation through American Canyon Transit (ACT), an Aquatics Center with a beautiful swimming pool and a skate park at 100 Benton Way, playgrounds, ball fields and parks.

American Canyon is growing and advertises that is seeks businesses that provide services for enhancement of the quality of life in the growing community. American Canyon is ideally located near dozens of wineries and Six Flags Marine World in Vallejo. It's rapidly becoming a Mecca for Silicon Valley refugees who have discovered they can operate technology enterprises from this more peaceful place a bit closer to paradise.

American Canyon Shops include 7-Eleven, Abe's Canyon Market, Arco, Chevron, Broadway Market, Quizno's Subs, Cold Stone Creamery, Safeway and the ever popular Starbucks coffee.

In the map above American Canyon is shown near the center, south of Napa seen as a red star along Highway 29. American Canyon is a mere 9 miles from Napa and the heart of Wine Country. American Canyon is 38 miles north of San Francisco, 56 miles southwest of San Francisco and 42 miles from Oakland Airport.

American Canyon, one of California's newest cities, is the gateway to Napa and Sonoma Wine Country but also enjoys a great location near the Six Flags Vallejo theme park that includes a marine element with penguins, a huge whale, camels and a variety of animals and sea life.
