Yountville is best known for it's wine and food. Located
in California's beautiful Napa Valley wine growing region, this city is home to nearly a dozen wineries, that include
the popular Domaine Chandon. Founded in 1973, Domaine Chandon was the first
sparkling wine producer outside Champagne to be established by a French
house, using only the traditional method. Also of great note here is the
famous French Laundry, a gourmet restaurant that has received more awards
than owner Thomas Keller can remember.
Part of a series of cities and communities that make up
the Napa wine growing region, Yountville residents are accustomed to the
finer things in life. They willingly share their resources and invite tourists
wine tours and tastings, festivals, hot air ballooning, shopping and spa
treatments. A trip to Yountville feels like a step back in time with the
lovely rolling hills that frame miles of vineyards.
One of the most unique shopping and
entertainment complexes that captures the essence of Yountvillee's roots is
Vintage 1870, a festival-style center with restaurants, galleries, event
space and many attractions on the grounds of a 23 acre complex. In addition
to the charming cobblestone walkways, vineyards and lush picnic gardens that
surround this historic 135 year-old Groezinger Winery, a garden pavilion
with a large collection of flowers and the meandering space is home to
events such Vintage 1870 in Bloom, Father's Day vintage car show and a
popular Halloween celebration.
Several
incredible boutique hotels and spas include the
Napa Valley Lodge and Spa, and
the 4 Diamond
Villagio Inn And Spa,
6481 Washington Street, reminiscent of a Tuscan
village and
Vintage Inn 6541 Washington Street,
akin to a French chateau. With great restaurants, wineries, flower gardens,
lush fields and shops all on site, you never need leave the property during
your escape. Travel & Leisure magazine recently named the two resort hotels
as 2 of the top 500 hotels in the world!
Most guests visiting the Napa Valley discover that weekends
are usually quite busy. Yountville and other cities invite guests to visit
on week days when traffic and crowds tend to be lighter. The wine country's
close proximity to San Francisco make it a popular weekend getaway for
locals who flock to the region. Annual events are held at and sponsored
by wineries as well as the local Yountville Chamber of Commerce. Annual
events include a summer Vintage 1870 Father's Day Invitational Auto Show
free to the public and fall Halloween and Christmas tree lightings and
town festivals. The best spot to get information and dates
is on the Chamber of Commerce web site. yountville.com
In 1835, George Calvert Yount chose a small area in the
heart of the Napa Valley to establish roots and settle down. He chose what
is known today as Yountville. Yountville is offers a peak into its rich
history through easy going strolls through town. It was here in Yountville
over 150 years ago that George Yount planted the first grapevine in the
Napa Valley, giving birth to this internationally famous wine producing
region.
