Wyland Studios
in Laguna Beach is located along the busy, trafficked Pacific Coast Highway.
This is the hub of the city where hotels and shops line the boulevard in
this artist community with a long history and passion for painting.
Among its esteemed residents
and shops are is the store of famed artist Wyland, who paints murals
and paintings of whales and oceanic life. His ecological themes are
promoted in a Whaling Wall project in which Wyland has traveled the
globe, painting large whale murals on buildings that the public can
view. Often engaging local youth and civic groups, each project is
numbered in a series with the goal of painting well over 100 public
buildings.
Wyland isn't just an
entrepreneur in his promotion of ocean life. He also is inspired by
what he does. Laguna Beach is but one home for Wyland who typically
lives near the ocean. His Laguna Beach art gallery includes Wyland
books, posters, paintings, lithos and numerous products surrounding
the themes that appeal to a broad audience. As awareness increases
about the plight of our world's oceans and the amount of pollution
that has invaded the habitats of the fish, whales and other animals,
the popularity of Wyland's work continues to grow with the
consciousness of those who see the ocean as an integral component of
the health and livelihood of humans also.
While Laguna Beach is known
for its permanent art shows and venues, its many galleries and
special art events throughout the year, the Wyland Gallery is open
for the public to enjoy most days of the year. If you happen to
book a hotel room in Laguna Beach, and are staying at places such as
Vacation Village or
Aliso Creek Inn, be sure to take the free public trolley, or
take a walk to Wyland Gallery.
