Surf City Nights is one of California's many evening
street closure events that bring people
out at night to enjoy revitalized
downtown regions of cities throughout
the state of California.
While
some cities have experienced the good
fortune to never let the str eet
traditions die, other cities such as
Huntington Beach have learned to
re-invent themselves through such
planned activities and events.
Surf
City Nights (SCN) is held Tuesdays from
5 to 9 p.m. (check out website
hbdowntown.com before going), and
includes live entertainment for adults
and kids. In addition to street artists,
there are food booths and kiosks,
farmer's market style vegetables and
specials offered by local merchants.
The
Huntington Beach event is funded by the
Huntington Beach Downtown Business
Improvement District, a non-profit group
that assesses each business within a
specific marketing region an annual fee
paid with the business license renewal.
That fee helps fund promotional
activities, operating costs and
advertising programs.
The
video above shows a Surf City Nights
event with a popular artist who performs
a variety of songs. In the video he is
performing "Hotel California"
popularized by the Eagles.
When
visiting HB, affordable hotels include
Hotel Huntington Beach and
Howard Johnson Express...two great
reasons to spend an overnighter at a
California beach. More
