Before the camera comes upon this
scene of the native beach drummers and percussion artists, a female
dancer in leotard moves her shapely body to the restless sounds of the
night. Dancing to her heart's delight, she returns for a bow, then
departs to the right.
Following this dancer comes a
parade of people passing through the California drummin' session.
Lasting for several hours, the drummers come, set up and join in, then
depart as seamlessly as they entered the mix.
The drum circles at the beach (in
this case Huntington Beach - Sunday evening) offer a primal, exciting
and entertaining diversion for those wandering by on their evening
strolls along the strand. Heading for exercise, to build bonfires, dine
at Duke's, Ruby's Diner or Savannah's Steak House, or wander the pier,
the evening crowd stops to listen, then continue on their way to their
various activities than only an invigorating beach night can offer. Sea
salt air mixes with a cool breeze to bring a somewhat intoxicating scent
that eventually helps lull you to sleep when you return to your home,
hotel, RV camper or bed for the night.
The drumming circles can be found
on weekends and some evenings at beaches along the coast, but are most
prominent in the Southern climes where the temps hover around 65 - 70
degrees at night.
