California golf courses
The stunning aerial view of the former Ocean Trails Golf Course
(now called Trump National Golf Club) shows the Palos Verdes Peninsula,
home to Rancho Palos Verdes and Palos Verdes Estates. The interesting and long
history of this championship Pete Dye public golf course, the
first new oceanfront golf course in Los Angeles County in over 20 years,
recently took another turn.
Ocean Trails, the only West Coast course featuring ocean views from
every hole, ran into problems for several years. When an entire section of the
course collapsed, it became the most expensive new golf club, as well, costing
over $250 million to build.
Now acquired by the Donald Trump, his
photo and welcome message appear on the course site, www.trumpgolf.com. No
longer does Pete Dye get credit for this course. In this re-made version,
it's called a Trump Signature Design Course. Crushed white marble lines
the walls of bunkers and expansive lakes protect tucked away greens. The 18 hole
course is open to the public as are the clubhouses restaurants, and even the
trails that surround the course.
