As you whiz along Highway 101, you'll notice this windmill hotel. Pretty neat! This is the hotel featured in the movie "Sideways", about two buddies who take a journey from Southern California to the Central California coast wine country. Using this hotel as their home base, they drink lots of wine and get into some interesting situations with some local single ladies. If you are planning a trip to Solvang, Buellton, Santa Maria, San Luis Obispo or Pismo Beach, be sure to rent the movie and watch it before you go. It's quite entertaining.

There are quite a few windmills in the area of Buellton and Solvang, two communities influenced by Danish culture. This Days Inn is within view of the Santa Barbara Marriott but usually offers a little lower price on rooms.  For that, you don't get tennis courts and a variety of amenities, but you do get a room conveniently located near a variety of Central Coast cities and activities. Since the property is right off the freeway exit, it is ideal for those late night drives when you need to rest and want to get a room right away.

Nearby attractions include Solvang downtown shopping, two missions, dozens of wineries, Lompoc flower fields, Santa Barbara, historic Los Alamos, Santa Ynez and Los Olivos, Chumash Indian Casino,  plus two favorite dinner spots, AJ Spurs and Hitching Post (both serve great filet mignon), you might consider staying at this Buellton hotel on your next drive.
