Sunset Beach, California--Sunset Beach Bars and Clubs
can seem like a closed community when you first walk into one of the Pacific
Coast Highway (ocean-side of the street) places to eat, drink and be merry,
listening to live or house music, talking with friends and saying hello to
locals you know.
But it only takes about five
minutes for people to warm up to you if you sit and socialize, order a
sandwich with a cocktail or Coke. Many of the Sunset Beach bars and clubs
have been around for 40 to 50 years and Mother's has been there so long, it
used be a stop where you could purchase tickets for the
Red Car. That
electric train is not in operation but began about 100 years ago. That tells
you the age of Mother's, the bright red building where you'll often see
fancy Harley motorcycles parked in front.
Sunset Beach isn't a large
place...it only runs one mile in length mostly on the ocean side of Pacific
Coast Highway (Huntington Beach is on the inland side, with Huntington
Harbour), except for Captain Jack's and Sunset Island, a tiny strip of
houses and land. For live music and entertainment, Sunset Beach bars
and clubs are only a few but boy do they rock with rhythm and blues,
rockabilly, rock and acoustic music!
The bars and clubs in Sunset
Beach include
Mother's Bar,
Taco Sur, Irish Mist, Turc's, Harpoon Harry's
Captain Jack's, J. King Neptune's,
Taco Surf and Sam's Seafood (now called Don the Beachcomber's). If you're looking
for a scene where you can ease into a comfortable evening of music, an
afternoon reprieve or just want to check out something different, drop by
one of the local Sunset Beach bars or clubs. You can grab some lunch or
dinner, grab a beer or cocktail and meet some incredible people. In
Neptune's (Neps), for instance, the bartender won the national bartender's
awards for cocktail mixing. He's tops for speed and knowledge of drinks.
Don't bother showing up if you are under 21 however. You will not be served,
per California law.
