South San Francisco California is located near the major cities
of San Francisco and
San Jose. Comprised of less than 10
square miles, South San Francisco occupies the basin and
portions of the sides of a broad valley formed by the San Bruno
Mountains on the north and the Coast Range on the west.
South San Francisco has mild winters and dry cool summers. The
hills to the west shield the city from much of the fog that
prevails in neighboring areas.
A BART station in South San Francisco provides public
transportation into the City of San Francisco. The city overlooks the bay and enjoys
sailing, Monster (Candlestick) Ball Park and dozens of great
hotels.
South San
Francisco is recognized by its huge letters along the
mountainside entering town that say "South San Francisco
Industrial City". The Sign Hill letters are one of the
historic resources designated as sites or structures of
significant architectural or historic value earmarked for
special status and protection. Approximately 25 sites or
structures within the City have been formally designated as
Historic Resources, including the Civic Center Complex, the Sign
Hill letters, and the Eikerenkotter House at 319 Spruce.
