There's absolutely nothing I can complain about when staying at the Sheraton Grand Sacramento Hotel. Pictured above is a typical hotel room with the city lights view at nights. The hotel room is very neat, new in appearance, utilizes the current color schemes that are popular in many hotels (deep, natural tones), and the high speed Internet access at a work desk is just great. 

Outside the door and across the street sits my daily fix of Starbucks coffee in the Sacramento Convention Center. I got to know the staff at this Starbucks kiosk and they are really down to earth, very nice people who remember you the next day. Coming from San Franciscoo's Hotel Nikko with a Starbucks at the hotel that I frequented even more, it was a treat to find some friendly, personable people in Sacramento.

Friendly staff at the hotel and nice people in the surrounding shops and stores make this an ideal place to stay when visiting Sacramento. I always prefer it to the perimeter hotels or the Old Sac hotels because I like being across the street from the California State Capitol. I've run into people I know numerous times while staying in this hotel or the Hyatt Regency Hotel next door. They are just a cut above in amenities, offering on-site restaurants and the 4 Diamond AAA rating that means the hotel beds are usually top quality and the cleanliness, bedding and little things reflect more of what you expect.

But for those who don't want to pay the price, there's nothing wrong with choosing some surrounding Sacramento hotels. We're also discovering, thanks to the tourism efforts of surrounding cities, that there are some great properties just outside the city in places such as Roseville.
