Shaw's Cove beach at the base of
Fairview Street is a popular diving and sports fishing location.
All forms of marine life except those listed on the sign at the top of the
stairs are protected. This beach is secluded, and most of it's visitors are
residents or regulars. Only 500 feet in length, Shaw's Cove is fairly small
and intimate. Yet the beach can fill up on a beautiful summer day. Visitors,
tourists and locals enjoy swimming, boogie boarding, skin diving, scuba
diving, and rock and surf fishing.
Under high surf
conditions, hazardous conditions exist at Shaw's Cove and the beach. To the north is especially dangerous
for people walking
to and from Crescent Bay. The surf can feature a mild shore break that
causes small rip currents to form along the rocky points. When surf conditions are mild enough, the rocks are pleasant for fishing,
strolling and tide pooling.
