Seal Beach Skateboarding Photo
Skateboarding in Seal Beach, California
is a great method for getting around. In fact, youu'll be more inclined to
see skateboarders taking to the streets than going to the little "skate
park", an old wooden ramp with a few ledges behind a nursery school which
locals don't give a very high ranking. In fact, we're not sure it is still
around. We'll drive by some day to
12th Street & Landing to report back if
it's still in operation. Pictured above is the ramp down to a public parking
lot at the beach located on Ocean Avenue near Main Street in Seal Beach.
Better skating is a drive away. Long
Beach has several skate parks with a noteworthy Houghton Skatepark in Houghton
Park, 6301 Myrtle Ave, Long Beach California. Built by the skateboard pros,
Purkiss Rose in 2004, the outdoor public facility is free and
self-regulating. With over 25,000 square feet of cement, ledges, rails and a
big bowl with three sections, it is one of the better public skate parks in
Southern California. Houghton is a friendly skatepark packed with bikes,
scooters and inlines as well as skateboarders, supposedly separated by day
designations. Offering the best selection of challenges in Long Beach, it is
also one of the busiest parks. The largest portion of the park is
a 7 foot bowl with a vertical extension the length of the face wall, and an
escalating ledge set back from the coping on one side. A street section
features short rails with assorted banks and stairs, and a terraced ledge.
Another pay park in the region is the
big Van's Skate at The Block in Orange.
