With naturist (nudity) policies have changed in
Santa Cruz, we have been told the naturist activities exist mostly at Red,
White and Blue Beach north of Santa Cruz near Davenport, where kite surfing
is a popular ocean sport.
There are
some great beaches tucked away in neighborhoods, hidden by cliffs or
unofficially recognized as nude sunbathing spots not on a map. Those beaches can
be found on California's Central Coast,
San Mateo County and in San Diego, as well. See
a list of locations.
Santa Cruz is a frolicking, fun beach town on the sunny
side of the beautiful Monterey Bay, 74 miles south of San Francisco.
While one of the most common dreams is being
caught in public
without any clothes on, some have gotten beyond that and are just doing
their thing. Cities where people can be a little less inhibited include
Santa Cruz, Encinitas and Palm Springs, California. There's a Naturist
Society and books that list nude beaches. While traveling along the California coast,
it becomes apparent that you are going to stand out more for people watching
than for being nude at one of the naturist policy beaches. We've found the
naturist beaches tend to be populated by slim, trim folks with their healthy
pets. They sunbathe, play fetch with their dogs and Frisbee and even row around
bays in kayaks. Some sit on the sand and socialize but most just sunbathe.
With nearly half of the American population overweight, a return to
dis-clothes-ure could be a first step in getting Americans to become aware and
slim themselves for appearance's sake.
"It's really no big deal," said a University of
Santa Cruz student we interviewed. "Our parents danced naked at Woodstock
and we just want to experience a bit of freedom, ourselves."
Nude beaches in California
for clothing optional sunbathing
are extremely popular, yet extremely limited for the
size of population and penchant of international
vacationers who seek the relaxed California beach
vacations. Nude beaches are not advertised by those who
enjoy naturist activities.
