Bright red surreys lined up ready for the paved path beside the sand, a beautiful, blue pool invites you to dive in, a romantic couple stands on a balcony hand in hand and volleyball nets are framed by the mountains. We found this scene at the Radisson Hotel in Santa Barbara, a warm and pleasant place where everything is touched by the golden colors of late afternoon. Across the street from the beach and within walking distance of downtown State Street shops, the Santa Barbara Zoo, Stearn's Wharf, museums and galleries, parks and restaurants, you can leave your car and walk to everything. That's a special treat Santa Barbara affords guests who look forward to getting in lots of strolls. 

 

Hotel Mar Monte is one of the many hotels built along Cabrillo Boulevard in Santa Barbara. That street is its oceanfront street where hotels access the beach and Stearns Wharf. Hotel Mar Monte certainly offers a special appeal with its Spanish look and beautiful lawns and shrubs. 

 

Among the choices long the beach, the selection is pretty strong. There have been one or two hotel properties that have not held muster, but all in all, we've been delighted with the likes of Hotel Mar Monte.

 

Worthy to note are a few local conditions that make hotel booking either good, or challenging. Weekends are the times in Santa Barbara when the Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange County audiences like to get away to this nearby enchanted destination. Also, when the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) has special events such as graduations, the entire city can be booked with hotel occupancy pushing almost 100%. So when you look to book in Santa Barbara, if you can 1. book weekdays and 2. avoid special holidays and events weekends or 3. book way early, you'll be better off to get a room at this beautiful diamond of city by the sea.
