Santa Monica Boulevard―Takin'
it to the streets is what Santa Monica is all about. Not settling for the
serene indoor scene, people love visiting Santa Monica streets. An outdoor
circus of activities and entertainment, when you first arrive in town, park
the car right away and get walking. From Santa Monica Boulevard to
Ocean, Third Street Promenade to its numbered street neighbors, you never
know what you will find. From
balloon artists making monkey hats to
monkeys passing around the hat, a drummer playing a riff from Led Zeppelin's
Heartbreaker to David Hasselhoff, Bay Watch star who walked alone, smiling
on the promenade after he filed for divorce from actress Pamela Bach, you
just never know who or what you'll find in Santa Monica.
With better chances of
seeing a movie star in Santa Monica than on the Hollywood Starline Tours,
grab a seat at one of the outdoor or window view cafes or restaurants along
the 3rd Street Promenade (must order something, of course), and ask your
food server which celebrities have been seen recently, if any. Sometimes
they're sitting right next to you but without all the makeup, you'll hardly
know them. If you could care less about Hollywood, just sit and take a look
at the street scene. Clowns, balloons, music, mimes and anything that
tickles the public's fancy is what you'll be most inclined to view in Santa
Monica.
Santa Monica features
several shopping districts, a pleasure pier, great beaches, resort hotels,
historical buildings, artwork everywhere and fantastic food. The closest
beach to Hollywood is casual, yet cosmopolitan in its food offerings.
Slightly understated, the best thing to do if you're not in the mood for
beaches and shopping is to sit and people watch. There are many spots to sit
with a cup of Starbucks and a good book, a game of chess (popular in SM) or
a salad, sandwich and a beer. Below is David Hasselhoff's body in Santa
Monica. Oops. We missed his face.

All I Wanna Do -
Sheryl Crow
Hit it!
This ain't no disco
It ain't no country club either
This is LA!
"All I wanna do is have a little fun before I die,"
Says the man next to me out of nowhere
It's apropos of nothing
He says his name's William but I'm sure
He's Bill or Billy or Mac or Buddy
And he's plain ugly to me
And I wonder if he's ever had a day of fun in his whole life
We are drinking beer at noon on Tuesday
In a bar that faces a giant car wash
The good people of the world are washing their cars
On their lunch break, hosing and scrubbing
As best they can in skirts in suits
They drive their shiny Datsuns and Buicks
Back to the phone company, the record store too
Well, they're nothing like Billy and me, cause
All I wanna do is have some fun
I got a feeling I'm not the only one
All I wanna do is have some fun
I got a feeling I'm not the only one
All I wanna do is have some fun
Until the sun comes up over Santa Monica Boulevard
I like a good beer buzz early in the morning
And Billy likes to peel the labels
From his bottles of Bud
He shreds them on the bar
Then he lights every match in an oversized pack
Letting each one burn down to his thick fingers
Before blowing and cursing them out
And he's watching the bottles of Bud as they spin on the floor
And a happy couple enters the bar
Dangerously close to one another
The bartender looks up from his want ads
All I wanna do is have some fun
I got a feeling I'm not the only one
All I wanna do is have some fun
I got a feeling I'm not the only one
All I wanna do is have some fun
Until the sun comes up over Santa Monica Boulevard
Otherwise the bar is ours,
The day and the night and the car wash too
The matches and the Buds and the clean and dirty cars
The sun and the moon but
All I wanna do is have some fun
I got a feeling I'm not the only one
All I wanna do is have some fun
I got a feeling I'm not the only one
All I wanna do is have some fun
Until the sun comes up over Santa Monica Boulevard
