This small town is steeped in history relating to Hearst
Castle. San Simeon has a state park and state beach located directly
below Hearst Castle, which is operated by the California State Park system.
The 1,000 foot-long fishing pier and crescent shaped beach of William R.
Hearst Memorial State Beach offers a family picnic area with a grassy lawn
on a hill above the beach. The facility measures only 2 acres but
is a beautiful spot with a protected cove perfect for relaxing and swimming.
San Simeon State Park, about two miles from San Simeon
Creek, is a great place to hike and observe nature. San Simeon Creek has
134 camp sites for tents and RV's.
Sebastian's General Store started aboard the brigantine
sailing ship Ayachuchio under the command of Scottish whaling captain John
Wilson, sailing between Peru, the Sandwich Island and California. In 1852
Wilson purchased one of seven licenses issued by San Luis Obsipo county
and built the store which has been bought and sold several times since
then. Recently renovated, Sebastian's is a gift store with unique
items and includes a coffee/tea house.
Located next to the store is a house previously used as
a B&B. It is now the homestead of the owner of the renovated Sebastian's.
Not as old as the store, it was built in 1949. Sebastian's Store,
