More Flowers
San Diego flowers shown in the photos
above offer deep, rich colors for spectacular flower arrangements or gifts. They
are integral to the cut flower business in California comprised of under
100 large growers and many smaller companies that have fought to compete with
other countries for a business that California once dominated.
There are about 200 cut flower growers in
San Diego County, and the cut flower crops generated about $83 million in
revenue on last count. From the famed Encinitas poinsettias to the flower fields
of Carlsbad, tourists come from other countries to see the brilliant displays
that annually create a show unlike any.
When you visit California it's evident
that the warm Southern California coastal regions such as San Diego look like
paradise gardens with their splashes of color throughout every season. The warm,
mild winters make for a perfect location to grow flowers and indeed, cut flowers
have become one of the most popular types of flowers to purchase. While
the Central California fields have seen their sales of seeds diminish and go
south of the border, they did, for a time, grow flowers to sell as cut flowers.
When visiting San Diego County's Encinitas
and Carlsbad, be sure to stop and take a look at the seasonal displays that
bring delight to all who share a love of flowers.
