Salinas California Shopping Photos and Information

 California shopping

Salinas, California features Oldtown Salinas, a Main Street shopping district that spans several blocks, ending directly in front of the Steinbeck Center. Many of the shops, boutiques, restaurants, banks and service businesses in "The Heart of the Valley" that banners proclaim, are located in buildings dating to the early 1900's. Beautiful flower baskets hang from traditional lantern style sidewalk lights that bring an old-fashioned ambiance to the heart of Oldtown.

Wandering past nail salons, a Real Estate office, wig and hat store with costume rentals, antiques store and collectibles boutique called Past and Presents, you'll find just the right amount of shopping options for a few hours of exploration.  We wandered into Past and Presents, meeting the owner who travels and collects items that range in price from $10 to $22,000 for an antique bedroom set.  Elegant gowns, fancy shoes for feminine women and a variety of treasures are offered in this unique store.

The Real Estate office displays brochures for farm land in Salinas with an asking price of around $1.5 million and an oceanfront home in Mexico for under $500K.

An old-fashioned medical supply store sells nearly a dozen types of easy chairs ambulatory features for those needing an extra push to get up and down, plus dozens wheelchairs, oxygen tanks and thousands of items that appeal to an aging population.

A fabric store, women's petites clothing shop, jeweler and half a dozen restaurants stretch along this district with its shade trees and convenient parking spots located directly in front of the shops.
