St. Anns Beach on St.
Anns Drive shown in photos is south, yet within view of Laguna's
Main Beach. It offers a retreat away from the crowds of the very
popular downtown Laguna beach.
St. Anns Beach is a surfing
beach where the waves stop right at the sand. Excellent for sunbathers,
vacationers, and beach lovers seeking a place less crowded than
the visible, downtown Main Beach in Laguna Beach, St. Anns is
tucked between two other popular beaches, and
Cleo Street
(north), and Thalia
Street (south) beaches.
On a sunny day when the
Laguna Beach skies yield their bluest, blues, the water offers a
soothing display in the color spectrum ranging from deep blue to
light, aquamarine green. You can stand on the steps above the
beach and take in this relaxing scene, releasing all your cares.
Accessed via a set of steps, much as most the Laguna Beach
beaches, this in not user-friendly for those who cannot walk or
climb stairs. And like other beaches in this south Orange
County city, the high tides may chase you back up the stairs as
the beach sands fade and disappear into the water line.
St. Anns Drive Beach
offers premier
body surfing conditions, and is considered a body boarding mecca. The beach is used almost exclusively
by locals who come to ride the waves. The conditions are dangerous with the
entire area comprised of a rock reef. One section does contain a sand
bottom, and that section becomes the strongest rip current condition when
there is large surf (just north of the tower). This rip often extends 200
yards seaward. Hazardous and rip conditions are numerous and this beach is
not recommended for the novice surfer or body boarder. |
