Garberville, CA -- The bright red roof and windmill next to the drive up stand of Getti Up are a throw back to the 50's when car hop service provided food to weary travelers, and eating in your car was something special.

Travelers today can pull off Interstate Highway 101 at Garberville and feel as if they've escaped in time to an old-fashioned place where burgers, shakes and smiles make up the the happy diet in a friendly place.

We stopped and ate at Getti Up and thought the food was pretty good. Trying hot sandwiches and cold, bubbly soft drinks, shakes, and fries, we sat at in the beautifully forested surroundings of Redwood country in Humboldt County,  Northern California premier tall forest destination.

The town of Garberville, is a mellow spot that's best attractions are the woods and hills. There's a golf course, about 20 restaurants, some shops in a cute downtown, and convenience stores, plus a couple hotels such as a Best Western.

While Garberville is about 67 miles south of Eureka and lacks the beach (the closest beach is 25 miles west around Shelter Cove,) Garbverville's lifestyle and scenic green landscape are beyond compare. It is surrounded by the Humboldt Redwoods State Park  and Benbow Lake State Recreation Area. So pull off the 101, pull your car up to the Getti Up (if it's still around), and have a meal with the great outdoors as your setting.
