| Chart House bills its restaurants
around the U.S. as offering spectacular views and exceptional dining.
There are eight or nine California Chart House restaurants (used to be more) and
we've eaten at six of them...all with the views, as promised. While they
used to served a delicious, hot squaw bread that is no more, the hot
rolls and crackers are pretty good. chart-house.com
There are around nine
Chart House Restaurants in California. Eight maintain the
Chart House name and one is branded as Peohes. It is located
on Coronado Island, and offers a sushi bar, too.
Several of our favorite Chart House restaurants were sold,
and the recipes they used such as delicious sweet, hot squaw
bread and a killer Bleu Cheese dressing have gone by the
way-side. Fortunately, we got the dressing recipe, which
they used to have in their lobby on recipe cards you could
take home. Dining at Chart House these days is a different
menu, but generally the flavor of its earlier days,
including the views that people enjoy. Chart House easily
qualifies as every day fine dining, or special events
celebrating for birthday dinners, anniversaries, etc.

Redondo Beach
This Redondo Beach Chart
House continues the tradition of outstanding views. And what
we really enjoyed was the fact that on a Christmas day when
nothing else was open, we were able to put our names in for
a reservation and even though the wait was an hour and a
half, we sat down in time to watch the sun set over the
Pacific Ocean. It was absolutely awesome! The food was
great, the wait staff friendly and professional, and the
prices were about what you'd expect for such views. If
you're a traveler seeking great view dining, this is a
recommended option. Located next to several Redondo
Beach hotels, three we'd like to mention are the renovated
Portofino Hotel & Yacht Club,
Crowne Plaza Hotel
and
Best Western Sunrise at Redondo Beach Marina.

Peohes
There was once
a Chart House operating in the old boat house connected with
the Hotel del Coronado. That ownership changed, but the
Chart House corporation opened another restaurant on the bay
near Coronadoo's Ferry Landing. (Pee-oh-eees) has a strange
name, to be sure. Why they called it that, well....
Location and views make this a must try restaurant. San
Diegans consistently rank it as one of the best view
restaurants in the city. And for us tourists, that is good
enough. When you're traveling, your hotel room isn't always
the best view in town, so you seek a place to dine that is
the best view. And Peohes certainly fits the bill.
There is no lack of view dining in Coronado, to be sure.
Hotels seem to do a pretty good job of serving up meals with
views, and among those,
Loews Coronado Bay Resort,
Hotel del Coronado and the
Coronado Island Marriott Resort are three strong
contenders.
